Just curious as to what others are getting, mpg wise. I,ve got an 03 standard that I run regular gas in and get usually 40mpg average. I live in NJ and am pleased with this mileage, and I do check it on most fillups so I am accurately reading it. What does everybody else get? because from what I see, I seem to be doing better than most.  Replys appreciated!  Thanks

I bought my '03 GL about three weeks ago.  I have been running 91 octane, but think I'll try 87 based on what I see here.

I am at 497 miles so I guess I'm still in the break-in period.  I am getting about 32 MPG.  This is mostly street and freeway riding at this point.  I'll let you know what I start getting when i switch fuels.

only 32 mpg?Huh?  that seems awfully low, my 03 has gotten 38 to 40 mpg AVERAGE since buying it brand new earler this year. Y ou should runregular as this is what the motor calls for. Remember, as great as the Valk is, its still a relatively simple Honda motor, and people dont run premium in a Honda civic

I have 98 standard.  I installed a 6 degree trigger wheel and  run premiim fuel.  My mileage during the winter runs in the 32-36 range and 35-40 range in the summer.  That is for mostly highway/freeway driving.  I've learned one thing.  The Valk is fast but it drinks accordingly.  At 40, you're running above the norm from what I've heard and read on this sight over the past couple of years.

Ride Safe and Happy New Year.

I wish I could get 35 or more mpg.

I'm happy to get 30, most of the time it is 28+.

My man, somethings wrong if you,re only getting 29 mpg!!! I,d either have the bike looked at, or check your math when calculating, because I get 38/40 n problem on regular gas

I ride a 01 Valk I/S and have got as low as 28 MPG riding 2 up and overloaded running 4000 RPM on the IH, I am talking Louisiana to Florida. But I have also got 40 plus crusing the roads of southern Mo. and North Ark. riding single. I will get 34 to 36 on the IH one up with a load and running 3200/3500 RPM. My ride is stock, 22,000 miles same plugs that came with the bike but have been pulled and re gaped, valves have been adj. and carbs have been syc.
I also have a 03 GW and it will get about 10 mpg better than the Valk. in all the same situations.

I have put about 56,000 miles on two valkyries. The first was a '97 tourer, and the one I have now is a '99 Interstate. I average 35 or 36 mpg on both bikes. they get better milage on city streets than out on the hi way. The tourer got better milage when I took the windshield and saddle bags off. The worst milage I ever got was around 18 mpg traveling across New Mexico in 115 degree temps, two up, loaded, pulling a trailer. Nearly ran out of gas before we got to Lordsberg. I bought a gas can to carry with us after that.

I've read on various boards what Valk riders are getting in the way of fuel mileage and they are all over the place from low 20's to 50's. My bone stock 2000 standard with 13,500 miles averages in the high 20's to low 30's per gallon. The most I ever got was 34 MPG. I usually don't ride aggressively, I could forgive the poor mileage if I were an aggressive rider.

Valk fuel range stinks, I usually hit reserve at about 125-130 miles. I wish I could get what I used to get on my Goldwings that had the same size tank. Mileage on my 4 cyl 'Wings was in the 45 MPG range.

Motorcycle Consumer News reports that the Valk Tourer is 37.3 mpg avg. and the Valk I/S 30.7 mpg avg.
It seems I exceed the avg. on my I/S.
I have no IDEA how MCN arrived at these numbers.

You know teufelhunden, there have been very FEW times I have checked my gas milage, only after a adjustment or something that would cause it to change. But I know about what I get per tank as one keeps track of miles since last fill-up even though I have a guage on the I/S.
The main thing is to RIDE. You have alot of pretty roads in your part of the country, keep riding.

I have got as low as 28 mpg while in Sturgis, the Valk also ran like crap while there, I think is was due to elevation, I live in Fl at about zero elevation and Sturgis is quite a bit higher.  Around here I get mid 30's. I have on occasion broke the 40 mpg mark. It happens when I am on a trip w/o the wife and am not pushing the Valk. I have discovered that the mileage on mine really drops off when I cruise over 75 mph for long periods. I have a 98 standard no windshield.  I say if you don't like the mpg don't check, thats what I have done recently.  When I was checking I found that I got pretty much the same mileage regardless of what octane I was burning, save your money and run 87.

I have also found that the milage decreases a great deal when running at 75 or above for any length of time.  With alot of highway riding in the upstate of South Carolina I find myself geting around 30 - 32 mpg.

.....33 is mine.

For the most part my `99 C has averaged 33-34 from day one, with or without the windshield. I've installed the Dyna 3000 timing advancer, K&N air filter, put in the K&N jet kit and I'm still getting 33-34 mpg. My worst being 24 mpg bucking a head wind out of Vegas and my better numbers were 38-40 mpg with a passenger, but we were only going 45-55 mph.
