I have an 2000 I/S with the original fork fluid and I was thinking new and heavier weight fluid would make it a bit smoother ride.
Does it require taking it in to the Dealer or can this be done by someone who has some common sense and some tools.

I did it myself. Most folks would say I was lacking in several of the things you mentioned......BUT, I do have a factory service manual. I replaced springs and bushings, so a fluid change would be easier. I will say that at 125,000 miles for my first fluid change, the fork oil was still colored, but it was a little dirty.

Yeah, but I stayed at a Holiday Inn!  LOL      Grin Grin

Sorry.

I think it is a good idea to change the oil.  It picks up some moisture, wear particles, etc.

If you do decide to change the fluid, remember that one side is for compression and the other rebound. I refilled my compression side with 15wt fluid and the rebound side with 10wt.
