I have a 97 tourer and I am trying to get the seat off to charge or change battery. I was able to get to the back bolt and lift up enough to get battery cover off and hook up that way. Didn't want to go that way but I am in the fire zone here in Magnolia,m TX area and trying to get her running enough to try to get her away from here. The key turns to the left side but doesnt release and I dont want to force the key anymore since it's my only one and don't want to break it. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Sit on bike to relieve pressure on latch, turn key and hold to unlock position, stand up and lift up on seat, If that doesn't work, while holding key, pop the seat down with your fist, Next thing to try, remove side cover and coolant bottle, pop open with a long screw driver, With seat off be sure to lube mechanism

glad that worked
get a spare key or two, keep one at home and zip tie one behind a sidecover. Losing/breaking a key is not fun.

Good luck with the fire.  I worked at The Woodlands and had friends living in Magnolia.  I know you guys are battling the dry and the fire.  Stay safe.
