Hi,

I was out picking up some antifreeze and just happened to look at the label for the PEAK brand.
I noticed now that it states itself to be silicate free. Before you had to use Honda brand or Prestone brand. Now there is a third choice.

Just lettin ya know what I observed.

Thanks, just put the Prestone in, I think it was about 5 bucks a gallon at Wally world.

One gallon of WalMart Supertech coolant + 1 gal. distilled water makes the same thing.  I'll put that extra gallon in the Model T.

I used Peak also but my water pump still went out. Started leaking. Replaced it myself. So went to Honda Coolent and will see. Been longer than with Peak so hoping. Good luck.

Hello again, men.  Here is what I have found out and I'm 99% sure.

There are a number of formulations of anti-freeze sold under each brand name.  Peak Long Life Anti-freeze, the 150,000 mile variety, is silicate-free.  Supertech WalMart 150,000 mile coolant appears to be the same as Peak.  That's why I bought it and mixed it with distilled water.  I believe the 150,000 mile coolants by Prestone and the rest are also silicate-free.  That seems to be the latest trend.

Some brands of coolant market a "heavy duty fleet" product that claims to be low-silicate, and that means it has some.  But... it appears that silicates are now the exception, rather than the rule.  Years ago, silicate-free had to be sought-out.

None of the above ideas is a substitute for reading the fine print on the jug.  It appears to me that silicate-free coolant is easier to find than it used to be.

If your not too busy a few pics of that model T would be great. My grandfather used to ride up on the railroad tracks let the air out of the tires and instant auto pilot. That wowed my grandma into marrying him. Fond memories for sure.

Hi,

How long ago was this?
Up until just recently the Peak was not silicate free. It was in the last year that it became.
I looked on the jug when I did my Valkyrie and thats when I started to use Prestone.
Now I can switch back, it is usually a little cheaper.
