cb
« on: October 09, 2011, 04:55:04 PM »

I bought a cb from an old time member from florida. It arrived with the antenna but
It did not come with the plug and wire that goes to the antenna or the left bracket

Swoppie, who sold me the cb as a complete unit never answered my email or posts so I bought a left bracket and the connection from Tank over on the vrcc

It is hooked up correctly but I get an error message on the display the unit shows cb active channel up down and squelch controls show action but no incoming traffic or noise  Wearing my full face with mike I dont hear anything and I cant find my manual for the bike

Is there something I am doing wrong

what should I do right

Any suggestions ?

Would sure like a working cb before I go cross country

1.  Error message?  what does it say?

2.  There are two volumes.  The regular volume, then you can raise the volume on the cb.

3. Are you using the speakers, or a headset for the cb?  The cb icon must be on on the dash for it to work.  Also, if using headsets, the headset icon must be on.  If using speakers, there should be NO headset icon.

Wish you had a manual for the bike.

Try here  http://valkyrienorway.com/download.html  for a download of the CB operating instructions.

none of the manuals shows an ER message

I cant imagine that not hooking up the passenger push to talk could cause the ER message as what if I supervalk the bike?

I will disconnect all power and try tomorrow again

I've never seen an error message of any kind, nor heard of any. Disconnecting and re-connecting everything sounds like the best idea to me right now. Also try what MP mentioned and see if you can get the CB to work through the speakers rather than the headset. When the CB is working properly, you will see "TX" when you push the trigger on the CB to talk and "RX" when you are picking up a signal. If you're near any highways, you should be able to pick up some truckers on channel 19.

I don't think the passenger PTT would have anything to do with it. I don't have the passenger switch on my IS and it works fine without it.

I have hooked up the PTT, but usually run without it.  Makes no difference.

What is the error message?

just says ER

3 things come off the cb  antenna, big honking black wire for intercom connection and the long black wire with the 3 pin connector

I am missing the connector piece that matches on the 3 pin connector that comes off the cb  Nothing under the right side cover and I have been looking for hours now  EVen took out the battery and disconnected my flashers, heated glove feed and battery tender feed to make extra room

Can anyone look at theirs and tell me where theirs comes out of

It cant be the boot with the push to talk (male and female extra wires in there) as all connectors are accounted for there and the same for the boot towards the rear right cover

I am stumped

update

the  connector under the right cover was hijacked to run the fog lites
by the honda dealer in nj who sold the PO the bike

Dag figured this out and we then freed the connector to the one that comes off the cb

The fog lites we have going to battery power directly now my recollection is its a fused circuit only now running 12 ga wire which is thicker than what was on there before

After his surgery NJF6cowboy will show me how to hook up my aux fuse panel so
I can run the heated gloves, a power outlet or 2 (I want one in the right side of the fairing and one by the petcock), those fog lites and the air horn (which seems to have its own relay you can see it above the fuseblock sitting sideways)

I will ride to NJ when he is able as he is having knee surgery Wed.
CB is clear as a bell once I adjusted the cb volume and the squelch properly

I thought I smelled electrical stuff burning saturday so I turned off the foglites for now
