I have had a MARS HO alternator in my 97 for 3 years now.  Works good, Yousa stock battery.

One thing about the HO alternators.  They need a little higher rpm to start charging.

I'm using the MARS HO with the same battery. It made a whining noise when I first got it, so I carried my old one as a spare for a year. I now trust it since I've had it a few years and many tens of thousands of miles. I like it.

The voltage regulator will not allow the HO Alt to over charge the battery but if the battery is low the HO Alt will charge it too fast and cause the battery to get too hot, thus reducing the life of the battery.

Does anyone know what a MARS HO Alternator puts out for AMP's and/or Watts?

Just curious here as it doesn't say anything on the website (below).

I called and asked, the high output alternator is 65amps. or 880watts @ 1000 rpms. and about 930 watts @ 3000 rpm.

Just a quick update from my previous posts.

I installed the EBay Alternator (85 AMPS advertised) I mentioned in my previous post and it fits like a glove as there is no difference in size at all.

The only issue I had was I had to turn the case about 1 inch so the capacitor would clear the frame. Unfortunately I didn't disconnect the battery before hand so I blew the 55 AMP fuse so am waiting for one to come in.

I also found this link giving info regarding the old GL1500 GW and what Alternator it had. Apparently its alternator will also fit the Valkyrie is listed cheaper.

I will narrow that down to "You meet the nicest people on a Valkyrie"

I ride three different Honda's and find the people I meet on Valkyries are most gracious.

The Tips link in the above post is really pretty good. I was surprised to see he recommends 25psi on a CT. This is what I have always run but most people tend to run 45-60psi.

Most of the info is what I would call "common mechanical sense" - Yep some good stuff.

I agree ValkThree, Valyrie riders are a close family.

Where I am live here in Canada there are not a lot of Valkyrie owners. In my city (approx 1 million) for example I would hazard to guess there are probably no more than 20 of us if you got all of us together. If 4-5 arrive at a cruise night where there are approx 300 motorcycles there maybe 3 of us there. Needless to say we are almost on a first name basis, LoL.

Related to the Honda slogan, I also have a 2009 Gold Wing that I picked up just over a year ago. While a lot of people comment they are the same, my response is you drive a Valyrie and Ride a Wing as they are definitely two different rides. The other odd thing I found is when I receive the traditional biker wave. On Wing everyone waves however when I'm on the Valkyrie, the Harley riders don't always. My buddy picked up on this when we went to Deal Gap in 2007 as he was on his Wing. Honestly it matter it to me, to each their own and I wave to all riders as we all share the same wind and road.

Just as a reference I have 121k on mine and it still has the OEM alternator - 115k on my GL1800 also OEM alternator although I did replace the 11 year old battery last summer.
