Hello, I have a 99' Interstate. I have removed the trunk and would like to know if anyone has installed a sissy bar without changing the fender rails or major modifications. Thanks for any help, Lewis. Lneedle4275@aol.com

Don't forget you'll need to add a taillight.

Hi Valker, I've had the trunk off forever and have installed a tail light. Thanks for the reply and foreseeing a possible problem. My passengers seem to want a sissy bar to lean against. Lewis  Smiley

Hi Lewis,
I have an 98 Tourer. Might the parts from it fit.  I'm thinking if someone ( not me) with a tourer wanted to trade the components it could work out well for both of you.

Hi Lew, I believe it is possible to use tourer fender rails and then be able to mount a sissy bar. I would like to have the option of reinstalling the trunk  and once I change the rails this is not an option. Does anyone know of  a sissy bar that can be converted for a interstate or has anyone made anything to fit? Grin Tongue Lips Sealed laugh

You will need tourer or std fender rails, as the IS rails do NOT have a mount for the sissy bar on them, as none is used on the IS.

Thanks MP. Does anyone out there have any rails or sissy bar setup for a standard or standard Valkyrie? Lewis

I meant to say standard or tour in the previous post. Lewis

Try checking with Pinwall on Ebay, they probably have some from a salvage cycle.

Or you could make your own. Cobra sissy bar (from J.C.Whitney) for a 1500 Intruder with two extra holes drilled in the rear to match the I/S trunk mounting studs. No trading struts from a STD, Just remove the sissy bar, install the trunk on the same studs,

Hi Challenger, I know I'm pushing it here but, tell me. Do you have a part # for that sissy bar? Have another picture showing how high it is and if there is cushion? Do you still have the original seat on your bike and the sissy bar clears it? I will go JC Whitney and check it out. Thank you very much, I'm liking this simple install. Lewis

J.C.Whittney # is SKU:313788 It came with the side brackets, sissy bar and pad. I had to drill new holes in the rear to match the I/S trunk studs, i used one of the original rear holes to mount my radio antenna when the trunk is off.  I have an ultimate seat which is wider than stock, so it should work .No one makes  a bar to fit the I/S, so this is the best fit I could find. Hope this helps.

You have been a huge help Challenger. I have saddlebag rails installed on my bike and have my antennae mounted to that. With the picture you sent me, I can see how high the sissy bar sits above the seat and I would definitely not want the shorty bar. Having the Sku # avoids ordering the wrong part. I understand I will need to drill the sissy bar. Thanks for taking pictures and answering so quickly. Great fix, Lewis
