I got my new alternator installed..it was a PITA.I removed the radiator overflow tank to gain access to the alternator hot terminal well .....it's all together but now I can't find the siphon hose that goes into the bottom of the overflow tank,I'm wondering if any one knows how that hose runs? I don't see it beside the alternator or by the T hoses. I sure hope I don't have to remove the alt.to find it.Wondering how important that over flow thank really is?? huh

I would say important.  It keeps the radiator plumb full.  If not on there, there will be partial air in the radiator.  Also, if the hose is connected yet to the radiator, it will puke out fluid when the engine warms up.

Try to follow it from the rad cap back to the tank.  should be able to follow it there.  Find the end that way.

I don't mean to hijack the thread but I just removed mine last week. Its not difficult to get the old one out  however it does involves a few twists, turns and patience to get it out past the frame.

Getting the new one put in I am sure is going to be a bit of a challenge. I ordered the one below thru EBay which for the extra AMP's I don't think was a bad price.

it's not to bad to get out. Clear the lines in back of the alt.and after it clears the impellers remember to push down toward the the center of the bike it will take a bit of maneuvering but it will clear the frame and slip down, then just lift it out.........Remember where you tuck your siphon hose Smiley

Thanks to both of you. I just found one of the screws on the main fuse had arcing marks and was only on with 1 and a 1\4 turns left. I think this was my dying battery problem. It was intermitent hoping this is it. 30K seems a bit early for an alternator to go. Thanks again gents.
