I see threads on how to modify the exhaust to make it louder-fuller. I am interested in making the bike quieter. I love the sound of the engine, not the exhaust. Any tips?

You want to make your Valk quieter? Maybe you can get a set of Goldwing 1500 pipes. Or try trading for a Goldwing. If you want it quieter, you probably bought the wrong bike. One of the advantages of the Valkyrie is the lower restriction exhaust; that, and the better carbueration, and camming over the Wing. Have fun with it.

OEM pipes on the Valk are pretty quiet. If you purchased it used, check to see if the pipes have been modified.

My previous post; I was going on the assumption that your exhaust is stock. But if you did purchase it used, it may not be; that would explain why you might want it quieter. Have someone who knows take a look at it with you.

They should, the mounting should be about the same. The frame is different, so some slight modification in mounting may be required.

This is simple... look inside the exhaust (from the back of course) and see if the piggies have been cut. If they have, then you have a modifed exhaust which is causing your "loud noise". Personally, I wish they were louder, much louder. I have a modified Harley as well as a Valk Interstate and I get a bit uneasy when running close to cars. Why... they can't hear you which is why they say, "louder is safer" and it is.

I'm a believer in being seen; I try to make pretty sure that I am. Being heard is also nice; when it comes to your horn. I have a really loud one. Loud pipes though are annoying to many people.

I prefer to have Hardley's behind me also. Putting them there is relatively easy. Twist the throttle and go. Downshifting is very rarely needed.

You say you bought it used. Do you have the three in to one stock pipes or the six in to nothing very loud things!
Someone else mentioned looking in the stock tail pipes to see if the piggies have been cut.
In either case, cut or six pack, new stock mufflers are pretty quite.
Of coarse they will set you back a $$$
Harleys in the rear view mirror, no doubt about it!

I pulled up along side of a Heritage Softtail at a stoplight yesterday. He looked over and said 'Great day for a ride huh?" I said "Yes". When the stoplight changed he took off like he was expecting it to come to the end of a chain.

Check to see if you have stock pipes as it sounds like you don't or you would be wondering if it was actually running. Take a flashlight and check into the pipe, you should see some smaller curved pipes in there, if not, not stock. You can also check underneath and on the inside of the can about where your pegs are and look for a u-clamp holding a glasspack on, that's a mod. You can quiet them down considerably by using Silencers which are basically a stripped down tail section of the oe pipes Mark Tobias at Horseapple Ranch has them at http://www.horseapple.com/Valkyrie/Valk_Products/M2W_Exhaust__System/m2w_exhaust__system.htmlor Viper at http://us.1.p.geocities.com/vipercreations/
