I just installed the new shocks which I got from Hondadirect. They came with installation instructions but no adjusting instructions. So, for those who have them: there is no tactile feel for the different settings (like in the original shocks) so 1) how many turns are there from full-stiff to full-soft (watch how you answer this!) and 2) is there a correlation between the load (lbs) and the setting?

You turn the collar/cover on the top of the shock to adjust. More preload=looking down on top of the shock "righty tighty, lefty loosey". Looking at the top, clockwise is more preload. You should be able to turn them by hand, but I sometimes have to use a rubber 'strap wrench' that I bought for $4. It takes a lot of turns to move the shock. As you turn, lines will appear on the shock (above the collar you are turning). Full hard is 5 lines (I think) with full soft being 0 lines. I hope this makes sense.shocked
Coorelation is more weight needs more lines showing.

I didn't post the original message, but just had 440's put on Majik.   I'm not real crazy about the feel of them, I'm guessing the mechanic has them on the bottom number.  I wasn't sure how to check, but your instructions will help a bunch.

Interestingly enough, LD tried to remove the air shocks to install the 440's but the bolt was rusted to the bushing and had to be removed with an air wrench (or something like that).  They weren't sure they were going to be able to get it loose, thought they might have to order a whole new rear end.....(what I wouldn't give for a new rear end!  tongue )

By the way, the mechanic is pretty sure that noise I told you about is my right fork.  I have to take it back this week and have it checked out.  I'll let you know what he finds out.

Give my love to all the Valkettes!

RH, if you still have the original fork springs in it, and have more than 20-25K on the bike, you will most likely have a definate poping in the front suspension.
Go for the progressives. But I think that you already have.
