I have owned lots of MC over the years. Mostly HD, But really wanted to get the Valk when the kids grad college, so I did.

Any way I bought it used 7200mi mint condt (tourer) 1998.
I don't have the owners manual, and when I check the oil should it be on the kick stand or upright?  I get two different readings on the dipstick.

Also how many qts on a change with filter.

Thank You in advance,
Ray.

Welcome to the World of Valkyries. The oil should be checked with the bike vertical & the dipstick "not screwed in". I have found that the way that works for me is to "check it warm & after sitting for a few minutes" (per the owner's manual). Take the dipstick out & wipe it off, then insert it back in without engaging the threads, stand the bike up vertical for a moment then put it back on the sidetand & remove the dipstick & see where the oil reached it's "high mark". The "full" reading will be about halfway on the flat part of the dipstick. The capacity with a filter change is 3.9 quarts but most of us just dump in 4 quarts, a lot of the 0.1 quart will hang on the inside of the oil bottles.
