Are you running with highest octane gas?  I understand that it is necessary.  True?

I have the trigger wheel on my bike too.  I have ran regular 87 (on a couple of occasions with no prob) and the 93 high test gas and both performed well in mine.  Although, I normally run the 93.  Perhaps altitude plays a part in this.  Im at 1200ft ASL.  I have had my bike up to about 6500 ft but at that time it was running the 93.

well I am at 350 miles give or take the preformance is way up but so is my gas milage..I have the interstate and fill up every 160-165 miles when i hit reserve....yesterday while driving thru  the mountians of nh I went 208 and didnt hit reserve wow...and she pulls much harder over 90 mph....just a great thing these are actual facts and wouldnt leave home without my new trigger wheel again towman85 out for now..

I've got the 6deg wheel to and completely agree with your discription. I also added 16050-MBY-671 carb spring kit and got slightly quicker throttle responce. just pop the carb tops and drop um in. I use best gas whatever that means and am getting around 40mpg!!! With out a doubt the cheapest performance I've ever bought. Glad to know were not alone.

yes I have put the stage one preformance kit in it which includes 6 needles and six springs as well as a k/n air filter when I hit it it feels lika a 4 barrell carburator secondarys kick in and off I go.....
I know no secondarys but it feels like that the slides open up much faster than stock...wonder why honda would not supply the trigger wheel standard if only to get better milage....any way I am more in love with my big pig than before...I own 3 6 cyl hondas and this one by far is my favorite..02 gold wing,99 interstate,03 standard anyway out for now towman85@aol.com

Towman, I still am using the original jets & needles and have some real traction problems, but I do have supertrapps. they made the big machine a little hard to ride in town at low throttle "unless I use 4th or 5th gear a lot "! Sort of like a light dimmer with a bad reostat.  When/If another comes along & blows my doors off I'll do some more, but right now she IS  the quickest thing I've ever had the pleasure of pulling the trigger on, and I'm still waiting for an equal to ride next to. She does however appear to be just a scosh fat even with zero disks installed and I'm wondering if stock springs & some needle changes would make some difference. the pipes haven't even blued yet ?

Paduka1 is your milage up when you drive reasonable then  may be that unleaded doesn't burn gray anymore it is still blabkish...if your milage is good and you are on stock springs and needles only thing I can sugest is when did you last change your air cleaner...20k is about all it will give......carb engine run fatter with a dirty air cleaner kinda like putting your hand over the intake of your lawnmower and blk clowds come out of the exhaust anyway just a thought........towman85 out for now, hey where are you you want to compare rides or race in a straight line...don't race on curves anymore....

I hate to sound ignorant but thats what I am when it comes to this subject.  What function does the trigger wheel play and why change it.

as a corallary to the previous question.  If the trigger wheel is so good, why didn't Honda just ship the Valks with a 6 degree advance?

In other words, since you don't get something for nothing, what's the drawback of the 6 degree advance?

I tried the trigger wheel on my '99 I/S, and noticed no difference. I have both a 4 deg. and a 6 deg. wheel at home now, but still have my stock on in my '00 I/S.
towman85, you say that you now aren' t hitting reserve until around 200 mi. instead of 160-165. I don't hit reserve until 185-205 now with the stock wheel, I wonder what we are doing different. Maybe it is the altitude, I run about 40' to 500' above sea level here.

smokey bear, the trigger wheel is a timing device and the only way to change the timing on the these machines is to change the wheel spark timing is a spec usually 2 to 10 degrees before top dead center  and by changing the trigger wheel you can advance this by six degrees..low to mid range throttle response is improved..as well as top end 90 up wow....after I changed mine I had to readjust the idle speed use to be 900 after the wheel 1400....anyway hope this helps....related to cars ever time an engine with a timing lite...you used to be able to adj timing by twisting the distributor...not any more...towman85 out for now..
