UPDATE !!
o.k. i have been looking into this for a few days now and have found out that in 1997 honda replaced the goldwing rear drive unit with guess what ? yep, the valkyrie rear drive unit.
so, depending on the gear ratio of the wing, we might just be on to something.
DOES ANYONE KNOW THE GEAR RATIO OF A 97 TO 2000 GOLDWING ?
once i know that i will begin searching for a 97 or newer rear end from a trike conversion. once i do (again depending on the wings gear ratio) i will make the change and keep notes on the entire process.
help me out here guys, ask whoever you know with brain cells. we need to know that goldwing gear ratio.
according to my figures, and i ain't a rocket scientist, if the ratio of a wing were , say, 2.55:1 and knowing the valkyrie is 2.83:1 you should see around 40 mpg at 75 mph. the higher the better, the valk can handle it.

Keep us posted, I could use a few extra miles to the gallon also. My wife was pretty upset when she saw the mileage on the Valk compared to my 97' Honda Magna.

both 97 thru 2003 valkyries and thru 2000 goldwings have a 12 t. pinion and a 34 t.ring gear. for a ratio of 2.833. the difference is in 4th and 5th gear in the transmission. i was told this yesterday by a very good honda mech. at the honda shop. wish there was a way to change the rear ratio.

All GL1200 and GL1500 Wings have a 2.833 ratio rear gear, Valk is the same except the internals are a little stronger. The only option is Mario gears or a taller rear wheel/tire. My friends GL1800 Wing gets about the same mileage as the Valk, between 30 and 40 depending on the "twist of the wrist".

i really believe the entire problem is the right wrist syndrome. we are suppose to enjoy a 70 degree day saturday so i'm going to fillup and do 100 miles at a blinding old fart speed of no more than 70 mph, or 3,500 rpm. just to see if i ride it the way i rode the wing all the time what kind of mileage i can really get.
crap ! giving someone a valk and asking them to ride it like a wing is like giving some one a ferrari and asking them to drive it like a pinto.
but we will see what we see. i'll report back sat. night.

Keep it at 3000 rpm or below and you'll get pretty decent mileage. Over 3000 and she'll start sucking gas big time. I've been thinking of installing an aux gas tank.

Hold on to the idea of an auxiliary gas tank. I am working on it right now. As some of you know, I suggested a Moon Racing spun aluminum tank like I have, but, the price has gone through the roof. I paid like $60 for mine a few years ago and now they are about $250.
I talked to the contractor/vendor who does the aluminum work on my trailers and he is knocking one out for me this next week. It will be made from shiny aluminum tread plate (diamond plate) and should hold 3.5 to 4 gallons. We are hoping to have it on my bike by week's end and I'll let you know what they cost when he gets it figured out.
They won't get us any better gas mileage, but, they will take us further on each fillup. I have quit whining about the mileage and just try to remember that Valkyries are fun!
