Whistle

Thanks all for the kind welcome. I noticed while riding the I/S there seems to be a "whistling" sound coming from teh engine. I know it's not wind, but associated with the revs of the engine.

Any ideas what is going on? I never hears anyhting like that on my 95 GW.

Vacuum lines entering the intake manifold, they often split where they slip on the intake.  This happened on my wifes bike.

Its the usual whistle coming from the vent under the windeshield.  Thats a common trait of the I-States.  Drove me nuts until I blocked off the vent.  Whistle stopped but some claim I'm still nuts...lol

I had the same whistle in the front air vent. It started when I changed windshields, the chrome trim didn't fit as tight as before leaving a small gap which caused the noise. I filled the crack with putty.  Works great

If it is a sound that follows the revs of the engine, I would bet on either the alternator, or the famous square cut gears. If it folllows the revs no matter what gear you are in, I would think that it is the alternator. I had 4 Gold Wings, and it isn't noticable on them as much as they have so much cowling on them.
The gears on the Valk are square cut, and they do produce a noticable whine. Hope that this helps.

Another whistling sound but its not a vent.

This morning when I started it after a few weeks of no riding, after a few minutes at idle, there was a whistling or whirring sound coming from the water pump area but I did the old socket extension from my ear to spots on the engine and I couldnt isolate it.  

I rode it to work (10 minutes or so) and it was gone.

Does anyone know if this is indicative of water pump failure?
