Read in one of the bike mags this month that the end is near for the Rune, but they indicated that the Valkyrie line is not dead. Wonder what that means? Anyone heard if there may be a new, improved Valk? Would be nice to see the line continue with a more realistic bike than the Rune.

So the VTX line is doing well but probably peaking out and they know it. What comes next? Somebody else has already done a 2000cc V-twin so that route is out, and any bigger is just getting silly. I mean come on. The Triumph triple looks like a tractor engine in a bike frame. I can't see the Co. with a me too bigger v-twin. They like to set they pace, so they could do a big 4-four like ST in cruiser frame or....
Hey I got an idea ;-) they could do a hot rodded 1800FI Valk. But not at least until next year. But I think it would be a hit. They haven't missed the fact that used Valks are being snapped up pretty quick, and some have referred to it as a "Cult Classic". Yeah the Rune did not live up to expectations, but I hope they realize that Valk buyers are not so much into eye candy, but want a classic looking bike with LOTS of power and great ergos, that doesn't do the Harley look-alike bit.
I frankly have never understood this fascination with v-twins as the only proper cruiser bike motor. Modern engine tech, as seen in the sport bikes, has so much left that behind, OK well there is Ducati. It is just because Harley is so successful. Can the market be led away from v-twins? Does Honda want to try? stay tuned.....

very good dennis you made my day Invigorating ride home from the city today, gusts up to 45mph out of nowhere looked like rain was imminent but missed me.
As for the 06 Valk= it has to be able to break the wheels free in its standard reverse gear (for parallel parking in the city of course) as well as have cruise control, 129db air horns and that bmw style adjustable windshield. Oh yeah and an amp that can put out more than the measly 24 watts we get now- I wanna hear the music over the hardleys I am passing and built in passport radar detector and gps (so I dont miss fatbass' house on the way back from Montrose)
I wouldnt be too upset if it had the 1800 engine (would miss the carbs tho!) as long as the frame was real steel like ours is now.
Yeah thats the ticket I could really live with that if I had to evan:cool:

sorry, i had forgotten about the reverse gear (real gear, not elect.) as for the tunes, the rumor has it that it will have am/fm/cd/cassette, xm satellite radio with 250 watt. amps. all mounted inside the frame so you cannot see it. you can also order (optional of course) a dvd that can be viewed on your faceshield. of course this will require the use of a full face helmet. (gotta make sacrifices somewhere i guess) i hadden't heard anything about electric windshields, is that really true ? the gps is also standard, as are the coordinates to fatbass's home and beer cooler. if anyone hears any more rumors about the 06 valk. please post them so we can know what to expect. dennis

Speaking of the Rune, a friend of mine wanted to know what he should pay for one. One of the local dealers has been on him to buy one, and said that they are really willing to make it attractive. I told him that I wouldn't buy one unless they were willing to go below 20K for sure, "tell them that you will give them 18K out the door for one, and see what they say." Haven't heard if he got a response to that one.

Why doesn't Honda make the Valk a special order? It will probably always be a fringe bike since everyone is after the huge twins. But it would seem like Honda could divert a 1800 Goldwing during its manufacturing and create a custom Valk. Or more likely, take a deposit for your Valk, and divert the manufactoring of the Goldwings to Valks only when they had a minimum threshold reached.

That special order idea works for me. I like the idea. But your comment 'everyone is after the huge twins' NOT EVERYBODY. Some of us know a good bike when we see one, and for me it is not in a V-twin, never owned one, and doubt that I ever will.
