Me and my Harley friends pick at each other a lot.....but I might have overdone it the other day..ha......Me on my Valkyrie and my son on his Suzuki 1500 Intruder went out to eat with 3 Harley friends the other night.    We were trading insults....playfully....when one of the Harley guys asked "In all honesty why don't you give up and just go get you a Harley?".........I immediately came back "Thought about it once....but I just aint into bikes with small engines.".........boy.....he didn't like that answer at all....hahahahaha.

LOL same thing with my cousin Bobby.  Me and bobby ride Valks.  My other first cousin Eddie has a realy nice night train HD.  Well, they told him when he bought it that it would eat a Valk for lunch.  He rode his 500 mile break in period and told Bobby that now he could ride it like he stole it.  Took off and was sadly dissapointed when Bobby busted his arse with his stock valk.  Since then he has spent a couple thousand dollars trying to get more power out of it in a failed attempt to beat our valks.  I give him an A for determination though.. he keeps trying.  I have to admit it is getting a little stronger, but not strong enough.

He is in Iraq at the moment.  I cant wait to see him again.  Hopefully by the end of the summer we can be trading insults again over a Coke and a burger somewhere along the road.

yea the road king is one of the nicest bikes they put out and if i were to go back to a V- Twin that would be my choice. but it sure is hard to beat a good running valk. and they look soooooo........ cool. don"t you all agree.

when discussing scoots with Hardley riders.  When they ask me why I don't ride a Hardley, I ask them why they ride a scoot with only a third of an engine.

They get testy after that.

I exchange friendly jabs with a couple guys at work but it's all in fun. One of the guys comes across as the real biker type but my bike has been on the parking lot 10 to 1  more times than his has. I would have one as a second bike if I had unlimited funds and could build the chopper I've been dreaming of for years.

When I was looking to buy another bike I went to the Harley shop and sat on every model of Harley they had there. The only Harley I would have considered buying was the Electra Glide Ultra.
Even on it I still felt like my knees were in my face. Even the Harley guys I beat on my Valk, tell me what a nice bike it is. Maybe one day when my valk wears out, if they are not making it again by that time,  I will consider a Harley, but probably will be the new BMW tourer.

i know harleys are assembled in the good ol' US of A, but how much of a harley is actually made in this country? I thought i read that the engine blocks are cast in germany but milled here, electrical comes from japan, etc.... then again being a mutt is about as American as you can get.

Hello all,

The other bike I was considering before I bought the Valk was  Road King. FRankly, I thought the Road King was a better looking bike, and better built on a cosmetic level. Much less plastic, more real metal parts etc.

But driving them both made it a pretty easy decision. Plus my wife didn't like the riding position on the Road King. Bars over the side bags dug into her ankles or calves or something. Figure that the Honda was $6000 less for a bike with only 5000 miles (instead of the 20,000 on the Harley) and I couldn't say no.

The difference in power though... just amazing. There's two kinds of riders, those that have never ridden on a Valk, and those that own them.

How do you make a Valk sound like a Harley?

Pull 5 plugs!

Hi, I just gotta chime in here. I too have always admired the Road King, and was about to get one when the Valk came out. I finally got a chance to ride one a couple of months ago when I went to Aruba and rented one for a 1/2 day. It was last years model with low miles. It is true that the fit and finish on it was better than stock Honda, however in all other areas it was inferior. The engine was weak, and the vibration got annoying after a couple of hours. The suspension was too soft, with not enough rebound damping. The brakes were pretty bad too. And of course it was small compared to my regular ride.

Oh well like the man said there are 2 kinds of riders......

I rented a Road King during a business trip in FLA this past March and for cruising the coast, it was a nice ride.  A few of the features I really liked was the forward controls, self canceling directionals, stock throttle lock (although that was difficult to use) and the stock seat was much more comfortable than any of my stock Honda seats.

However, there were a couple of areas where I had the opportunity to juice the throttle, which is where I missed my Valk.

I have to admit, that another great thing about my I/S is that there just aren't a whole lot of them around and I like being somewhat unique... although that's just an added bonus to owning such a great bike.

I agree, while I would love to have the  new valk with the wing motor, I enjoy owning what I consider a limited run motorcycle and a part of me hopes that  Honda doesn't build a new Valkyrie. But, our bikes will wear out sooner or later. Time to move on........
