I am new to this board and new to Valkyries.
I am looking at a 1999 Valkyrie Interstate with 13,000 miles. It looks like it has been taken care of. Newer Elite tires and new battery. Not much else for extras.
It is also relatively close to me within about 200 miles.
I have come to the conclusion that a Valkyrie is the bike for me.
Is it worth $10,500? KBB says retail is about $8,900.

You might be able to find 1 cheaper, but then you might miss out on 1 altogether. Considering they are no longer made they are becoming harder to find good condition low mileage units. Personally if it was me and I was looking for another if it looked O.K. I would probably buy it if it looked like it was taken care of. Only you can be the judge of that.

I agree with Condor. If the bike is in good condition, it will probably bring 11,000 +, at least here on the East coast. Good Luck.

I had been looking for a Valkyrie on Ebay and Cycle trader. I finished up paying $10600 for a very clean '00 Interstate with 11K miles. The seller had been asking for $11500 but would not come down further than the 10600. It seems that most of the better condition ones have been advertised for about $1000-$1500 more than the Nada or KBB, whearas a lot of the other bikes have been right around the "official" kbb retail. Maybe tour type bikes sell for more in the Spring and probably by the time Fall rolls around they'll be selling for well under KBB. In fact because I bought one overpriced I guarantee the opposite will happen when selling time comes around.

I always thought the year doesn't mean anything. Especially since they are virtually the same bike throughout production. I bought my 97' Standard last spring with 7900 miles on it. It is cleaner than some 02's and 03's I've seen. It now has 22,000 miles and is just as clean as when I bought it. Don't forget that with good service habits they will last forever providing you don't lay it down or run it through the ditch. Buy the first clean one you can find with the options you want, the sooner you take ownership the sooner you can ride it. After about 100 miles you won't care what you paid for it.
welcome aboard,
Marc

I must agree with Condor here, I paid 10,300 for my 02 I/S with 11,729 miles without a moment of regret.

I have had my buddies 00 Black and Red I/S on the VRCC ads for 10,599. It is in great shape with 11,000 miles. Has Kury trans. covers and Hondaline engine hangers and Tulsa shield. We have gotten lots of interest but no sale yet. Its located in Carthage Tn.

Well I purchased the bike yesterday. Thanks for all of your replys. I probably paid a little too much but it was close to me and the bike is in like new condition. Like someone said, drive it 100 and you will forget what you paid.
I drove it a little yesterday. It will take me a while to get comfortable with it for sure. Much bigger bike than I have ridden in the past. I am looking forward to having fun with it and have a lot to learn from all of you on this board. I will be asking a bunch of questions I am sure.

You will never regret it. You got a good deal. These bikes are holding their value much better than people thought they would. They are distinctive yet classic in looks and very reliable.
As for the size. I had never ridden nothing bigger than the 800 Shadow I owned when I bought my 97 std. I was VERY nervous that I had bitten off more than I could chew. But I just took it easy with the right wrist ;-) in the beginning and once you get it moving along you will find that you trade that heavy feeling that you get in slow speed situations into a stability and smoothness at higher speeds that is really confidence inspiring.
I have since buying the Valk over 8 years ago now ( whew time flies when you are having fun ;-)) demo'ed several other bikes, but I still have found nothing that matches the Valk!! The cruiser of the decade!!! ( Rider magazine 2000).
Welcome aboard!

I'm sorry I didn't have a chance to reply before you purchased, but you evidently didn't need my input to make the right decision.
For the record, I found my '99 Interstate last year with 13,000 miles on her and she was going for $10,500. I thought it was worth more, so I had the dealer install a couple of accessories before I picked her up and ended up paying $12,500.
It was worth every penny... and then some.
CONGRATULATIONS!
And welcome to the group.

Tell all the other Valk owners you meet and ride with you got it for $6,500 from the widow of the late owner.
They will never talk to you again!
(for taking advantage of a little old widow like that!)
