well, i left saturday morning at 7 A.M.  rode to st. george utah, got up sunday and rode all the way out to morro bay, calif. got up monday and rode to fallon, nv. then tuesday i rode the entire hwy. 50 ride and wound up in salina utah. left this morning and got back into town at noon. great ride, long days. first real ride since i bought the 03 valk.

so. first i must say that if i get rid of this bike, it will be because of the gas mileage. i rode the first 400 miles with a friend on his 03 goldwing. at 75 mph, i averaged only 29 mpg. he averaged 46, and can out run me. kind of embarrasing.

but being a former goldwing owner i can tell you that the wing just isn't as comfortable as the valk. now some of you may be aghast ! but you tend to sit on a wing, and down in a valk. i really liked the ride, even on 600 mile days. now i may look for a more comfy seat, but i have to say by the 5th day i was getting along pretty good with the stock seat. (maybe my butt was just getting numb)

the floorboards (kyriaken hwy boards) were magnficent, as is the 28 inch wide rifle windshield. i see no advantage to the memphis shades lowers with this windshield, so i'll let them go with the memphis shades windshield. the utopia backrest was a lifesaver.

hwy 50 is a real treat, from fallon nevada, back into utah was really nice. it is getting pretty busy on that road, in 12 hrs. i must have seen 5 or maybe even six other vehicles. but if you are planning that trip, never fear, there is plenty of gas across there.

new valk. owners. don't listen to any one when it comes to modifying your exhaust. buy a pretty pair of cobra extentions and leave the baffles alone. it sounds real cool, but by the end of the day, you lay in bed and listen to them for hours after you have quit for the day. and i wear a helmet.:explode:

the bike ran flawlessly. i really like the valk on a long ride. i am longer from the waist up than from the waist down, so i will opt for a set of the risers to pull the bars back and up a little, that would make a great ride even better. i lost 1/64 th off both tires in 2100 miles, not bad ! dunlop elite 2's

115 degrees at baker calif. 65 on the beach at morro bay. 42 this morning in salina, ut.

all in all a great ride. see you in montrose !

Sounds like you had a blast Dennis.

Thanks for the info on highway 50. I'll be heading that way in July (Montrose) and I was wondering what the fuel situation was going to be.

And yes, I agree, the Valk is the most comfortable bike I've ever owned, gas mileage sucks, but you can't beat it for comfort. Did I hear (read) you right, the Wing was actually faster?

How is the town of Austin NV? I'll be staying there my first night on the road and I'm kinda wondering what kind of room I booked. I was told there are three hotel/motels in the town, no name brands.

Let me know how the risers work out, I'd like to add a pair and I was wondering if the cables/wires/etc. have to be lengthened.

Thanks for the post,
Mac

you will really love the ride. be sure to stop and see the tennis shoe tree.

one place i stopped was so quiet i could hear my self breath. it's a spectacular ride.

austin is a real little mining town. there is a gas station on the north side of main st. that serves food. "best hamburger i ever ate!" the hotels appear to be 100 + year old buildings that have been renovated.

i stayed at the best western in fernley, nv. and got an early run at the hwy. i did it in one day and then stayed at the best western in delta, ut. both nice, but the one in fernley was extra nice.

there is gas about 35 miles out from fallon, again in austin and eureka, more at ely, and a nice station and restraunt right at the nevada/utah state line. (Also a small $33.00 motel) never more than 80 miles without gas.

let me know how it goes. i have photos i can e-mail

That just ain't right shocked  angry......but stranger things have happened.

Tennis shoe tree huh, where's that at? There's a bar in Virginia City NV that has a bra tree.

I kinda figured I'd be staying at a restored hotel when I asked what they had (or didn't). No pool, no cable, but the lady I talked to did say Austin has a natural not springs within twenty miles. She also said there's a family in the area that has a natural hot springs pool on their property that they allow people to use at a buck a head.

Heck yea, any pics you want to email me I'd be happy to look at.

Dennis, That sounds like a great ride.

I'm not real concerned that the 1800 Goldwing is faster, the Valk still has plenty of power to scare the crap out of me.  And the gas mileage wouldn't be as big a problem, if we just had a sixth gear.... Maybe the next round of Valks will have a sixth gear and be a little faster.

It sounds like RT 50 is some road.  I've driven some roads in VT where you drive for miles without seeing another vehicle and it is an unbelievable feeling.

Glad you had a good time and happy to hear you're home safe.

Take a look at this to extend the range. This is the best solution for extra range on the Valkyrie that I have seen. I have one, my Valkyrie is the green one in his photo page.

Thanks for the trip report Dennis.  Makes me want to hop on the Valk and take another run.  Some freinds and I just returend from a four day, 1400 mile run from Salem, Oregon to norhtern California.  Rode in the Trinity Alps and Lassen Park area and had a tremendous time.  I want to make the same run you did someday too.  I find gas mileage on my Valk is directly proportional to how far and fast I twist my right rist.   As for more speed and power.  I ride the Valk too fast already!

Ride safe and often.
