I'm questioning the accuracy of my odometer. I have a '98 GL with about 18,500 k. My wife's first bike was a '97 ACE 1100,for every hundred miles I would travel her bike would register 105 miles. You're asking maybe it's her bike. I got her a new ride last X-mas...an'04 VTX 1300. We get the same results. I got new tires at 12k but there the same size as the factory tires. No other mods other than the cobra six packs and jet kit.

  Any ideas what's causing this?

As the tires wear, they get smaller. I have checked my Valk's odometer with new tires and it reads about 98 miles for every actual 100. When the tires are nearly worn out, it registers about 103 for each 100. My speedo is off about 6% (reads faster than actual).shocked

I am also off about 6%; I register about 94 miles to a friend's 100 miles.  I t will be interesting to see if that changes when I put on my new front tire.

Valker,

I read some of your posts and think… "That makes perfect sense, but how the heck does he know that?".

Now at least I have an idea how you know these things.... trial and error.

I can honestly say that I have never heard of anyone testing the odometer with new tires and again with worn ones and then comparing the results.  I still don't know what made you think of doing it (or some of the other things you've done, or tested), but I'm sure glad you share all that knowledge and experience with the rest of us.

God bless you buddy.

Best way to know is using a GPS. (global positionning system)
It will gave you accurancy in miles or kilometer.

Here is Chet's cheap answer to the odometer accuracy question.
It appears to be very accurate.

Sigma Sport 800 Bicycle Speedo

I actually thought about doing this Cheesy

My Valk odometer shows appears to be pretty accurate when using the mile posts or the odometer test sections on some highways.  My question is that if the odometer is basically accurate, is the speedo basically acurate as well?
