I thought there was a posting already about what to take on a long trip, but I can’t find it.

I have the list from the AMA, but currently I'm looking for info on specific tools and parts for the Valk.

Here is what I have for non-tool items (most of this stuff I carry all the time)…

Maps
Small first aid kit
Rain suit
Eye drops
Earplugs
Advil / aspirin
Cell phone
Extra key
Portable weather radio
Bicycle cable for locking my leather to the bike
Bike cover
Rag and cleaning wipes
AMA member card
HRCA member card
Maglights (1 small keychain size and 1 slightly larger)
Small compressor
Tire plug kit
Zip ties
Small Velcro straps
Bungee cords
Rope
Mechanics wire
Spare fuses
Spare lamps (turn, brake, headlight, fog light)

I'm not sure about the actual hand tools, as my bike did not come with the Honda OEM tool kit, but here is what I have so far….

Vice Grips
Adjustable wrench (aka knuckle buster)
Multi screwdriver
Metric Allen Wrench set
Slip joint pliers
Needle nose pliers
A Leatherman

QUESTION...
Wrenches and/or sockets (?) obviously metric, but how many and what sizes?

Perhaps we can come up with a consolidated list of do’s and don’ts along with a list of what to take and then post a link from the home page for future reference to all.

Thanks in advance.

John: I would think that a Cruz Tools Metric Kit would have most everything you might need. They make a couple of them; The high priced set(over $100) contains American made tools. The less expensive set contains tools that are made "offshore" but are still excellent quality. One place that I am pretty sure you can get them is at Whitehorse Press(http://www.WhitehorsePress.com). Another place to try would be Rider's Warehouse (http://www.aerostich.com) I have done a lot of business with both of these places, they aren't always the cheapest, but they sell quality stuff and I've never had anything backordered at either place.

Here's a few things I packed.

tire pressure gage

compass (especially if you don't have GPS)

extra quart of oil

Also took a 17mm wrench and an oil filter.  Instead of tracking down a Honda dealership I stopped at NAPA to buy the oil then changed it at a local auto shop.  All I needed was a drain pan and for them to dispose of the oil.  Cheap and you know it's done right.

It's good to know I'm not the only one who leaves the house well prepared.  I will however pack a small compressor for next time.

2 water bottles/gatorade
hard suckin candy (great for when you dont want to stop & drink)
cellphone and charger
honda riders club of america card
Small towells or shop cloths
card with phone numbers Ill be calling
one small highway flare and cone

anyone have anything else?

Oh yeah and all this together dont take more than half of the right saddle bag
cool

I store the shoei or arai full face in the trunk in case of heavy rain. otherwise it is the shorty with the leather zip out.

OH and for crying out loud DOnt sit on
that fat wallet, put it in the jacket pocket and zip it in.

I also carry a set of wheel bearings, they are small and don't take up any space to mention.  Murphy's law, you know.

You're a brave man Dennis!!!!! I know what would happen if I made a statement like that. On my next ride, my left rear wheel bearing would go out, the petc o c k would start to leak, the final drive splines would strip out, the U-joint would blow up, the alternator would take a crap, and the starter button would fail. Naturally all this would happen within a mile. Yep!! You're right though, it's a pretty darn reliable bike. LOL!!!!
