What is the overall opinion of the Amsoil products for the Valkyrie?  Are they better then others or is it all hype? Would like the best in my bike so whats the reigning king of the hill of oils?

*caution* armchair mechanic with no real qualification on the subject about to post*****

I never used it, but from what I've read in various sources, any good quality rated oil is good, just make sure you change it often enough. I'd be leery of any special oil that's not similar to what the factory suggests.

IN my wife's car (2003 Jetta with 1.8l turbo) we now run synthetic, as we have heard the engine is prone to early failure due to sludge buildup. Synthetic is said to prevent these problems. Does anyone here run synthetic in their Valk, or know if that's suggested?

I always use synthetic in the Valk. I have run Mobil 1 auto, Mobil 1 Motorcycle, Amsoil, Rotella T, etc. I think I like the Amsoil motorcycle oil best. I am not familiar with their other Valk products like filters.Cheesy

I switched to Amsoil in both my Wing and Valk. last year. I had not been running synthetic before that time and almost immediately noticed that shifting was much smoother and less "clunky". This is also true for most synthetic oils from what I have heard.  I had run petroleum based oils in my other bikes for over 30 years and  never had any problems.  You just need to be sure you follow the appropriate maintenance guidelines for oil changes.

I haven't used it due to lack of availability here (no local dealers).  It's just easier to pick up some Mobil 1 at the auto parts store.  However the only negative thing I have heard regarding Amsoil products is from Ratdog on the VRCC forums reported he had an Amsoil filter (and it may have been 2 filters) come apart internally while in use.  He found it when he changed the oil as I understand.  But as far as I know, it was a freak thing and I believe he is still using them.  You could ask over there.

My dragon uses the amsoil oil & filter, the amsoil air filter and the severe duty 75-90 gear oil for the final drive.
not affiliated with amsoil in any way

Ive emailed ratdog about that filter problem and also emailed amsoil and  sent a copy to ratdog of their offer to insepct and test the filter (and oil)
As of last week he said he hadnt sent them the filter for inspection
He still uses the oil though!

I changed the oil and filter on Wednesday after going about 6500+ miles. It looked fine as it drained out.
Smooth shifts and the oil light goes out immediately on starting (thank you RevRider for pointin that one out to me)

She is much more responsive for sure with the new air filter.

I have used Amsoil and filter for 2 years and I like it. I wanted to use synthetic and could not find Mobil1 where I live so I buy amsoil online.

Which Amsoil do you  all use? I currently run Rotella but want to switch to Amsoil since it is easier to find in Quart bottles. Just want to make sure I am using the correct one.

I use Amsoil full synthetic 10w-40 in the grey 1 qt. bottles identified on the bottle as motorcyle oil and like it in my cycle and ATVs.  I have to agree with Valker that Amsoil, Mobil 1, or Rotella T are all just fine choices.  I get my Amsoil oil locally from a dealer for 8.50 per quart, not great price, but not too bad a price and only change it out once per year in November before winter sets in since don't go over 6-7K miles per year.  That same dealer gets me K&N oil filters, KN303, for about 11 bucks each.  Honda oil filters are just fine also and a few bucks cheaper but since I am there already, what is a few bucks more to not run all over the place seeing as how gas just went up to 3.299 per gallon locally.  Just wait until June when I hear 4 bucks per gallon is going to happen but that is a different topic all together.

Thanks for the reply Cookie, as for the filter, I only use Wix brand. They have put food on my table for the last thirty years. The Amsoil filters are also made by Wix in Gastonia NC.  I agree, a really get a kick out of folks buying expensive oil then buying a $1.50 filter from Walmart. Makes not since to me.

I've read from many posts that most use any kind of oil filter on the link below and other oil filters just fine no problems, but to each their own. I like the higher priced K&N simply because it has a nut on the end making for easier removal.

Our cycles are not that fussy I don't think and any good quality oil and oil filter should be fine as long as you change your oil every 5-8K depending on if using full synthetic oil or not leaning towards the 8K mark then is my opinion if using synthetic oil.

I've always liked Amsoil, as a matter of fact, I am running Amsoil 15W40 Diesel oil right now in the Valk. Had it for the past 10K miles. I use CarQuest filters ($3.50) made by Wix.
I have also been known to run almost any oil and filter combo.

Amsoil is fine oil, although I cant march over to the store and go get it. So Mobil 1 MX- 4T it is for me, I get it at Autozone. Also I run a Bosch filter 3300. Does the job. -- I run the same in my VFR800.

Walmart filters are rebadged champions, ther is no Walmart oil filter factory, rated well in any of the ratings lists I have seen, the cost is $2.84 at my local Wallyworld. Several sizes fit, some are extra capacity, those are the ones I like. You can use the full 4 qts, Supertech ST3593A   Smiley  Hoser

Super Tech filters are made in China, open one at the base and look inside. If you are like most people you will never use them again once you see the inside.  Nothing but paper and tissue like end caps. It is the same filter that AC-Delco uses and paints blue. For $2.00 more you can by a Wix, Napa or Carquest filter. High quality glass impregnated, composite media, metal end caps, silicone anti drain back valves. The Wix filter is made in the USA and has a warranty.

Try getting a blown engine repaired by Supertech.  If you use a Wix filter with Synthetic oil, the filter will last the 8-12K miles the oil lasts before you have to change it.  I am just saying if you are going to spend the money on high dollar oil, why in the world would you want to put a cheap filter on your bike. It defeats the whole purpose of quality and protection of your engine.
