Question..

Looking at a couple of older Valkyries and one guy I talked to said he hadn't really ridden the bike in over a year just starts it and takes it around the block, he said he thinks it needs a "Tuneup" but he put "Stable" in the fuel last year?

I've heard good and bad about "stable" gas additive?!

1-I think it might not need a tune up just good gas, what do you think?
2-Is a 97 standard with just a windshield and 31000 miles worth $6000, fair or not price? It's very clean!
thanks, Pete

Sounds like a fair price tp me Pete.

Probably just needs to be run,  put some Tecron or Seafoam in the tank and it should clean right up.

Hey Cycho,
thanks for the reply!
I called the guy and told him to drain the gas , put fresh gas in and some "Sea foam" and let me know what happens?
He only drives it around the block because he has a Non-Op and the plates and insurance expired?
He's 65 and had a heart attack so he's done riding?
He put "stable" in the gas a year ago?
i told him to start it up and stand there and work the throttle to make the RPM's rise and fall untill a 1/3rd of the tank of fresh gas and Sea Foam have gone through the carbs then sneek it around the block a couple of times and see if the "Rough Idle" goes away?!
Maybe the "Stable" has fouled the plugs a little?
He said he'll do anything i want to get it right, nice guy!
Thanks , you guys know a lot more about Valks than i do!

Pete,
One more thing on the Stabil gas additive. It has a maximum shelf life of about two years. After that solids begin to precipitate out of the mixture which can really foul things up. As a reminder, Valkyries don't have any fuel filters, so you may have some junk in the carbs. As far as price goes, if it is reasonable to you, it is a good deal!

Good luck.

Sounds like he is willing to work with you Pete.
If it looks like it's been well maintained, I would offer him $5500 as is.  Dump a bottle of Techron in the tank and go.  Bet it would be purring like a kitten in less than 50 miles.  And if you have to get someone to work on the carbs you won't lose anything.
I have done the above to old bikes that haven't been run for a long time.  I prefer Techron but Sea foam and MMO work pretty good.
You don't want to run her real long on the side stand, it'll turn the pipes blue.
