Hello everybody, I'm new to the forum but not new to valks. I have a 99' standard that I've added national cycle bags, windshield, and baker air wings along with many chrome goodies. I've recently joined a local riders group (ALR) and these people really like to ride. Most have HD Ultras and pack for and ride in all kinds of weather.

I have read in some other posts to try to upgrade a standard to interstate style would probably cost more than just making a trade. I'd like to know from the people that have riden both interstate and standard (with shield) what you feel are the differences. The obvious larger and hopefully dryer storage capacity. What kind of eliment protection do you get. Is there a big difference in wind buffeting? From prices I have seen on the internet I would guess about a $2000 upgrade. Do you think it is worth that?

Thanks in advance for your help

Well, I certainly think that it is worth that much of a difference. It's much more comfortable for you and a passenger on a long trip. The fairing gives you pretty good protection. I find that if I get caught in some rain, and I don't have rain gear with me, or don't stop to put it on, that I tend to get in the knees, and some on my shoulders, but not too bad.
The extra storage space is a big plus if your wife packs like mine does. Then there is the radio, and the intercom system. I also have the CB on mine.
Good luck, whatever your decision. You'll have to make it for yourself.
