I am in the process of finding and buying a Valk. I have found a '98 w/ 15000 miles with some nice extras and a '98 w/ 998 miles!
My question/concern is the one with 998 miles means it has spent alot of time sitting ofver the years and I am concern about gummed up carbs sediment in the tank old fluids etc.
The two are within $500.00 of each in price. Both have are in perfect shape from the outside. Am I being overly concerned about the one with low miles?

Yeah I'd go for the 15K miles.  15K is still practically brand new for a valk.

Would you be able to ride them both? I agree that the 15000 miles is no big deal(My '98 has 80,000), but if they both run equally well, I would opt for the low mileage one. 15,000 miles in 8 years means that the other one has done it's share of sitting around too. At least by my standards.

Barry,

Something else you should know. The Valkyrie's originally came with Dunlop tires. There is a solid chance the bike with low mileage still has those tires in place. I have read a lot of posts with a lot of complaints about those original tires. If you bought the bike with low mileage, you may find yourself quickly asking questions about vibrations, noises at speed and weird handling issues, all due to the Dunlop tires.

Don't let that stop you from buying the bike, just make an educated decision!

I would have to agree that the Dunlop tires are a negative. The other one could have them on it too. My original Dunlops lasted some 19,000 miles on this bike, and a little less on the '99 I had.
ALMOST ANYTHING WILL BE BETTER, than the original Dunflops (misspelled intentionally).
The one with 15,000 on it, only has about 6 months of good riding on it. The mileage shouldn't be a concern, check the condition, and riding on each of them, and then make your decision. GOOD LUCK WITH IT!!!!

OK so BarryD, what happened?  Did you get one?  Are you a VO yet?  I'll be willing to bet that if you did get one, you've spent a lot of time looking at her after you were done riding.

Good or bad, what happened!!!

Oh sorry, I saw the post and thought that it was posted yesterday afternoon,  I guess I get all excited when someone gets a bike.

If you get one and are going to be riding tomorrow morning, PM me tonight and maybe we can meet up for coffee somewhere.  I plan to go for a ride at around 8 untill around 11am and I'm always up for a place to go.  If not, I'm sure we'll all get together soon.  I'll check PM's tonight if anyone wants to meet.

I'm down in Fayette County.

In a PM I'll give you my cell number if you want it. That way we can coordinate a little better.

I'll send you a PM right after I finish this.

Some of my biker buddies and I eat breakfast at Kelly's in Loganville, 7:15.  It's located off Hwy 78 next to the Ingles grocery store.  If you see the yellow and cream Valkyrie , I'm in there.
Otherwise, I'll probably see you in the area.  You'll be the guy with the big grin on your face, right?

Oh well,  I just posted on the ATL thread about meeting this Saturday morning.

I met Bob and Barry along with a couple of friends of Bob.  Before we parted, we were talking in a parking lot and a guy comes by and starts talking to us because he also has a valk.  His name is Eddie and I expect to see him here soon.

Thanks guys,
John
