Just a Q for veteran Valk riders.  I just bought a '97 standard Valkyrie (with windshield) with 11K miles on it.   My gas mileage seems to be ranging from 26 to 36 mpg, depending on the speed I run.  I've gotten 36 on the highway at at steady 60 mph, but as little as 28 around town and/or highway speeds of 80 or so.  Is this the normal mileage for a Valkyrie?

That is pretty standard mileage. I have a 98 Tourer with 51K on it. My worst was 26 mpg and a best of 53 just cruising through the Rocky Mtns.

My responce pretty much mirrors Valkers although I've never seen 53 mpg even on the trailer:D  36 mpg is about right.  and in the 20s at 80 is about right. The one thing I've noticed about the 97s is they have a bit more power than the 98s on up. Every one I've ever had straped on a dyno was normally at least 3 hp above anything 98-. While most people I've talked to are getting 37-39 I've never done better than 37.5 on a standard stock valk. Enjoy, BR

I think that this sounds like pretty normal mileage.  I have a '00 Interstate now, and find that my mileage is about 30 to 40, depending on driving conditions and speed.  Hope this helps

Folks have had different results by adding trigger wheels and such, but my '97 never really benefited from them appreciably. Of course, one of the problems is that off the slab, you wind up burning a lot of gas idling while people come over to ask questions and oogle the scoot. Smiley

You have a good time with it!

26 to 36 is about right....   Valkers 53 must have been all down hill.   ;)

I got that on two separate tanks, both of them in the mountains just enjoying a leisurely sight seeing ride.

Thanks for all the input, guys.  Sounds like what I'm getting is pretty normal.   I've been riding a '97 Shadow Spirit for about 5 years and was used to about 50 mpg on it, so 26 to 36 with 6 cylinders and 6 carbs sounds about right.  It sure is a sweet running machine!  It's my 7th Honda in 35 years and I just love their engines!
