I installed either 2 bros or coba exhausts on my 97 Valk (been a long time and the pipes don't have any logo on them that I can find). Being a doc I don't have a lot of time to ride and the valk has very few miles so the bike is ingreat shape. I have had trouble ever since as the bike is horrible off the line. I took my wife riding over the weekend and have to rev it up just to take off in 1st or it bogs out. Low end is nonexistent. The only time it runs well is when I nearly red line it then it sounds like a rocket! It constantly pops, backfires and bubbles while riding. I had it serviced and carbs cleaned and I believe after that did no good, they even rejetted it. This bike is actually dangerous as it almost bogged out when pulling out in traffic.
Any advice? My bike is currently in SoCal so if anyone knows any great Valk mechanics that can rejett I would app. the input. I still have the stock exhausts which are like brand new but don't want to revert back to them unless I have to.
Thanks!

...vacuum hoses. It sounds like one may be off or split.

any time you open an exhaust system up like that you will always loose low end torque. thats just the physics of a gas engine. before re-jetting i would look into a set of baffles to regain some low end.
want to sell your stock pipes ?

Here's my beast. As you can see I have the Corbin bags that will not fit with the stock exhaust.
I also own an 85 Magna all stock which runs like a top and always has.
Oops that's weird. Can I not add pix on this forum?

I will sell my stocks if I ever get the bike running right. Does anyone else that installed similar pipes have this problem?

by the way, those look very much like cobra pipes and cobra does make baffles for them.

i really like what the cobra look like, but the noise tends to make your neighbors want you dead, and on a long trip you will surely lose your hearing without earplugs.
cobras with good baffles that would tone them down and regain the low end would be perfect.
i drilled my baffles and bought a set of 4 inch cobra tips, sounds and looks pretty cool, but given the chance i would return them to stock.

If you have a serious stumble when applying the throttle and lots of popping on decel then you are running way too lean. You need to fatten up the fuel/air mix by adding aftermarket needles and jets. Having had the Cobra 6x6, TBR 6x6, MarkT glaspaks and stock exhausts I've been through this before. Cobras need re-jetting to gain back hp lost from stock pipes which usually means 105 main jets and 38 secondary jets. The aftermarket needles are typically set on the third notch. E-mail me if you need more help/advice. You definitely don't want to run your bike in a lean condition for very long or you will damage the motor. jrhorton@lycos.comJohn Originally posted by fish I installed either 2 bros or coba exhausts on my 97 Valk (been a long time and the pipes don't have any logo on them that I can find). Thanks a ton. Do the 2 brothers exhaust require the same criteria for jetting? I may just call both companies since I cannot remember which I had bought years ago. I will print out your post and ask my local bike mechanic, probably Santa Monica Honda to dial it in. Although they already tried once.

you can tell the difference between the pipes as follows: Cobra are straight pipes with a slash cut end... TBR are turn outs at the end... According to TBR, their 6x6 require no rejetting. This may be true with the stock airbox/filter, but if you are running a K&N and especially w/o prefilter then you may be running lean there too. The Cobra lean condition is also affected by the removal of the baffles. More info about your setup is needed for more help. If you need any more info, e-mail me as I won't be back to this website for a while. jrhorton@lycos.com

I am getting ready to add TBRs to my bike and I did call them. Although, they discontinued these I talked to a rep who seemed to be in the know. In addition, I talked to a buddy of mine who works for Honda and they both told me with TBRs, just as JHorten mentioned, no rejetting is necessary as long as you have the stock airbox and filter.
And yes, TBRs have the turn-out end as mentioned....at least mine do. All Cobras I have seen are straight slash cuts.

Thanks for the info guys! I too called 2 bros and cobra today. Sent them pix of my bikeand they said they were def cobras. No turnout. Cobra told me that dynojet worked with them to make a custom? needle (whichleads me to believe my problemmay be fairly common?) He gave me the part number and detailed instructions were faxed to me. If anyone is interested or also is having this problem just call cobra. If this still doesn't work I am going back to stock. Or maybe I'll lookfor some old 2bros.
My baffles are in by the way. I couldn't imagine how loud it would be without them.
