Where do I find this tank that fits under the frame??

I've seen it before... could have sworn it was LaMonster, but can't seem to find it again.

I rode over 200 miles Saturday to a PGR funeral and both of my riding companions (one on a Victory and another on a Harley Softtail) were whining about sore butts, buzzy hands and feet and going deaf... not me, happy as a pig in mud, no pain in the butt, hands, feet or ears.

You'll soon find that wonderfully quiet engine just isn't a problem at highway speeds and by-the-way we were blasting at 80-85 through the Arkansas part of the trip as it was only 32 degrees and we wanted to get home.

Earlier in the day we had hooked up with some Louisiand Highway Patrol officers going to the same funeral and they were roaring up Interstate 20 at 105+ and I had NO problem running with them... the Victory was okay too, but, the Harley simply could not go that fast so we had to slow down so he could catch up... pitiful!

I'd have to second that! It doesn't get any worse mileage than the early GL 1500 Wings, but way better performance.

Hey Valker, the gear change isn't really about saving money, it's distance. If I could get the milage that you say you do, I'd be pretty happy. I rode a GL1200 for the better part of 20 years and could travel 175 miles before the low fuel light lit. To date, I've only gotten 127 miles before I hit reserve (filled with 4.25 gallons of fuel and I'm looking for more.

A larger diameter rear tire and/or the belly tank are options, but more milage is the goal. 30 miles per gallon on a mixed speed trip sucks compared to the old wing which used to spin the motor a lot faster at the same speed due to a higher rear end gear ratio. Granted, I've been preoccupied with another pressing project to really dig into this thing, but new plugs, air filter a general clean and tune up hasn't budged the fuel economy worth mentioning, so changing rear end gears was sometning to look into.

So the real question is, what am I doing wrong to get such lousy fuel economy?

The easiest upgrade is a bigger fuel tank from an Interstate, you will get 175 miles before reserve.
I don't care for the belly tank idea,  just don't want a bunch of gas hanging down where the rocks are.
The GL1200 has the same rear gear ratio as the Valkyrie does but a taller transmission overdrive gear.  I believe the GL1500 also has different transmission gears than our Valkyries.

What we need is some sort of two speed rear end, Brownie box, or Gear Vendors unit.  Give it 10,15,20 gears with double overdrive and rig up an Eaton air switch or tank shifter for the aux. box.  Wouldn't need to worry about someone hopping on and taking off with your bike then.  Hell you could leave the keys in it.

Joking aside I'd be interested in a set of taller rear end gears and I think others would be too if it could be done for a grand or so.  I'm not too concerned about wearing out the engine but I'd do it for better fuel mileage and the quieter more relaxed rpms.
