Vista Cruise makes an effective “throttle lock” similar to those seen on other brands of bikes.  The lock consists of a collar which goes over your grip, a locking mechanism, and an adapter that secures the device to the handle bar.  For the Valkyrie (or any other Honda with a 1” bar) an adapter is required and needs to be purchased when you purchase your throttle lock.  I have seen three ways of installing the Vista Cruise, which option you chose is a matter of personal preference.

Installation
Standard:

1.  Place the collar over the right grip and slide until it almost touches the end of the grip near the reservoir.

2.  Loosen hex bolts in collar so that the rubber friction piece can be inserted.

3.  Insert rubber piece, working it under the collar until flush, continue around the collar until all the rubber strip is in place.

4.  Tighten hex bolts down so collar is snug on handle grip.

5.  Now loosen (do not remove) brake reservoir, and slide about ½ to 1” towards bike.

6.  Place 1” adapter over bar, and secure so that the bolt hole faces up, push towards grip then  tighten.

7.  Place connecting bar on the 1”adapter, adjust 1:adapter so bar does not interfere with kill switch (bar should be above kill switch).

8.  Secure bar to collar locking mechanism.

9.  Adjust so that it holds when in locked position, and releases freely when not locked.  ** This is very important for safe operation of your bike **.

10. Slide reservoir back against 1”adapter, and adjust for proper hand placement.  Tighten down securely.

11. Adjust mirrors and test.

The standard install has a couple of problems: It moves the brake lever out, so that it was not comfortable, and the black bar going over the switch housing was ugly.  To address this an alternate approach was developed.

Alternate approach:

Notice the difference!

1.      Follow steps 1-4 above.

2.      Using a small L bracket from a hardware store, twist one end 90 degrees.

3.      Drill a hole in one end of the bracket that is large enough to fit over the mirror bolt.

4.      Drill another hole on the opposite end to secure the locking mechanism on the collar to.

5.      Undo mirror and mount bracket, replace mirror (please adjust before riding for safety)

6.      Secure the locking mechanism to the bracket and adjust.

7.      Test carefully to ensure throttle rotates freely when unlocked, and holds when locked.

This adaptation can be made more attractive by having the bracket chromed.

Third approach:

Chet has come up with a way where the vista cruise is mounted underneath the switch housing.  I have no details on this install.  Here is a link to Chet's page on how to install Invisible Vista Cruise

With all modifications to your bike, it is *** Very Important *** that you secure all bolts snuggly, use loc-tite where required, and test all modifications fully for safe function.
