Hey,
Been reading opinions about the oil some folks use...why synthetic ?
Isn't the 20w-50 Pennzoil the right one ?
thx, Rich

Stick with what the owner’s manual recommends 10W-40.  Personally I don’t mind spending an extra $1 a quart over the price of automotive synthetics to get the Honda synthetic without molly which is recommended for Valks.  Seems a small price to pay to ensure the right additives package and no molly for longer clutch life.

I use Shell Rotella synthetic. It's gotten me 30,000 miles with no problems.

As we know, new oil is good for the motor and used oil are good for the clutch and gear. Molly are good for the gear, but not for the clutch. I dont want to experiment, so I use the recomended Honda synthetic without molly.

Go with the Rotella T full synthetic. It is safe for wet clutch systems as it doesn't have the friction modifiers in it. Best bag for your buck.

I would just add a hearty amen to the Rotella T Synthetic advocates. It is 5w40 but there have been no known issues other than long running, clean oil.

20W50 is also a recommended oil for temps from 40 to over 100. Either will work and both follow owners' manual unless temps are below 40*F.shocked

The seat is a Corbin. I am limited to it as its the only one that will work with the Beetlebags. Lots of people like it real well but for me they are too hard. Had to have mine worked on 3 times and am trying out foam on top now. But then I have absoulty no padding on my posterier.

Here we go with the oil thing again. In the past, I have used Valvoline All Climate 10-40, Valvoline Motorcycle 10-40 and Mobil 1 10-40 in my 01 Valkyrie. I just did an oil change using Rotella 5-40 synthetic. The dreaded Valk gear whine is all but gone. My only concern is the 5-40. Apparently others have used it with no problems. Any thoughts?

I also use the cheap synthetic from wally world, about $13 for 5 quarts(gallon jug).
Super tech I believe.
Bike runs quiet and I can afford to change oil more often than running mobile one which I will run if they are on sale.

I'm a Big "Rotella "Fan for years and guys have had great luck with it in Valks and other bikes but my Valk started making a wild clatter with it and i changed to another syn brand and the noise went away? don't know what the heck it was and i was unhappy that i couldn't use the rotella but the bike is purring now for the last 5000 miles with the other oil. which i ran in goldwings and other bikes for 100,000 miles! go figure!
