does anyone have any comparison tests between the different series tires ? for example , the 65 series gives more ground clearance, but it also raises the seat height. which series handles the best? do you have to do the nut cage mod with all of them? any input, good or bad, would be appreciated.

Not too much difference. I like the 55, have not done the nutcage mod, didn't lose much, if any, ground clearance, no noticeable difference in RPMs or fuel mileage.

I too run a 55.  What Valker said is pretty much my sentiments too.  I think mine varied the rpm about 150rpm different at 65mph.  Something like that. Its not really noticable.

I run the 60 and did do the nut cage mod- in about :45.  I figure the point of the whole thing is to get more rubber in contact with the ground, so why not go for the widest tire I can.  I can't say I noticed any real RPM or height change.

205 is the width. The 55/60/65 is the height from the bead to the tread. All of them will be the same width.

Speaking of wide... wasnt there a wide tire kit to take the valk out to 240 or 250 at one time?  Did Viking Motorcycle have that perhaps?  I know they went out of business.  I dont really intend to do it, but I would be interested in looking at the mod.  Drawings etc.

Hal @ Honda Directline did that kit. You might contact him.

I, too, would be interested out of curiosity about this "kit" or "mod."

It looks kinda like this...

This one was a 330 rear though.  Unfortunately, I dont know who's bike this is or I would ask how they did it.  You can get a hint of how, by looking at the third picture.  It looks like they used gears or a chain to move the drive shaft over inside of that housing.  Nice job none the less.

Interesting styling exercise, if you're interested in having yet another chopper clone and sh!tty handling is OK.   Though the pics raise a question - if that's a chain, presumably turning a sprocket, what's holding the shaft housing to the swingarm assembly?  If anyone knows where there's more info on this bike, I'm curious about the ob-stackles overcome. (w/ apologies to Wash Hogwallop of Oh Brother Where Art Thou?)   Or did the builder r-u-n-n-o-f-t?

Looks cool.
How much for the over priced mc tire with no tread?
I'll keep my darkside.
Thanks.

I run a Michelin Hydroedge 205/65R16 using 32 pounds of air pressure and my gas mileage increased about two mpg with the car tire.  Why?  I don't know, but, it did.

The 65 series tire reduced my engine rpm by maybe 100 - 150 at 70, not enough to bother with, the important stuff is the MUCH better stopping power and the wet handling.  WOW!  I like it.  Dry road handling is just fine, and yes you can feel it just a bit on very uneven pavement at low speeds, be careful and don't worry, it hasn't caused me any problems in over 36,000 miles on two different car tires.  The Cooper ($78 out the door) was totally worn out at 21,000 miles and the Hydroedge ($140 out the door) has over 15,000 miles and looks great, I guess you really do get what you pay for.

I am 5'9" at 190 pounds with 32" inseam and did not have any problem with the height when I went to the slightly taller tire.

Like Valker, I also tried a cheapie tire first, a Cooper Lifeliner SLE, the Michelin is light years better.  Pavement both grooved and smooth, gravel, dirt with or without a trailer, one or two-up, I will keep a car tire on my '03 Valkyrie standard.

I've now seen car tires on Gold Wings, RIII, Honda VTX1800, big Yahama v twins and others.  Most seem quite pleased.
