I'm about to dive into the land of the darkside, and have decided to use a Michelin Primacy 205 65 16 - partly because I've got a set on my car and really like them, and partly because the extra diamater'll lower the cruising RPM a bit and get me more MPG.

The question is - do I get the "HR" rated tire - which they have in stock, or should I hold out for the "VR" rated tire, which they'd have to order in (and wouldn't get here until Mon/Tue next week)?

Does the HR tire have a more rounded edge for better cornering (if you are agressive on corners) or is that the speed rating for this model?  The Primacy looked like a nice tire.

HR & VR is the speed rating. HR is rated to 130 MPH, VR to 140 MPH. I don't plan on getting above 100 MPH though.  Roll Eyes Beyond that, AFAIK, their look / construction is the same.

I've just done a test fit of a 205/60/16 on my bike, it clears the belly tank w/plenty of room to spare, and doesn't rub where the nutcages used to be.

Next step - pull the test tire off, take it back and trade it for a Michelin Primacy, give the splines a good lubing, replace the shock bushings and rear brake pads, and then get that bike back on the road! Hooyah!

EDIT: It wasn't a 205/65/16 but a 205/60/16.

The v rated tire should have a heavier/harder sidewall.
I imagine it would handle better.
