I am an owner of a '99 Gl 1500 and I want to put a car tire on it. My question: Is there a difference in the Valkyrie rear wheel and the 'Wing wheel? I have been told it has to be modified to put a car tire on it. I have a VTX with a car tire and I really like it, hope I can do the same with the Wing. Thanks for any help.

The you provided really does not help because the Goldwing in that article is an 1800. Mine is a 1500 and is supposed to be different. I want to know if there a difference between the Valk and 1500 Wing.

Sundog, the Valkyrie has a 5 inch wide rear wheel so installing a tire meant for a 6 inch wheel works Ok. I just didn't think the GL1500 Goldwing's wheel was that wide. If your wheel is wide enough you don't need to make any mods to a wheel designed for a tubeless tire.

Why not? The diameter is the same, the drive unit is the same and the bearings are the same. Just may not have the same width tire.

When I bought a spare GL1500 Wheel from a trike shop in Daytona, I was told Valkyrie and Goldwing GL1500 wheels were not interchangeable.

Thanks Barry another option shot but atleast someone else has asked and apparently gotten an answer. Anybody here tried a VTX1800 wheel set up? I'm just trying to find out what all the options are for us.

Good question Barry...... It would be backwards though, the VTX drive unit is on the left side I think.

would it matter if you had to run the rim "backwards" I just wanted to know if they were swappable. I wish I knew someone in a Honda shop so I could find out all the available wheel options for our bikes.

I saw a post on the goldwing darkside forum by someone who said they were doing it with the stock rim, I think the size was 130-65-15 not sure though

I was wrong about the size, I would look for the narrowest ct I could find & get a used one to try it.

I have them both, big difference The valk rim is 5" wide, the wing rim is 3 1/2" also 5" wide versus 7" at the hub , Can't see how it could work, Maybe if the valk swing arm would fit the Goldwing?

I think a 175 or 185 -75-16 might work, Don't know if anyone has tried it, That's what seems to work best on a 3 1/2 x 16 rim on the roadstar's , If I had a 1500 wing I would try it.
