heres a subject we seldom cover, tires. almost as rarely as "oil" !
anyway, it will be tire time soon, the tires on this bike i bought have 90 % tread on avon venoms, and a production date 0f 26th week of 01, yep !
so my question for all of you is if you have bought the new avon cobras, how are thy doing. i was thinking elite 3's again, but i've heard some good things about the new cobras. any comments ?

I was too busy riding on mine to answer..... 8) ;) Rainy, 2-up, and great traction here in the Pacific No'west. So far, so good with only a few hundred on the venoms. --jj_WA--

I've had Avon Venom's...great tire...got about 10,000 miles out of them and excellent handling. Then I had E3's...also great tire...got about 9000 miles out of them and good handling, a little heavier feel than Venoms...but at the time much cheaper than Venoms. Then I had Metz...POS...only got about 5000 on the rear, 7000 on the front, OK handling when new but terrible from half tread on. Now I have Avon Cobras. I went from worn out Metz to New Cobras and I know alot of it is just from going to new tires. But MAN!!! The handling is AWESOME!!! I've only got about 2000 on the rear and a few hundred on the front, but so far, these things ROCK!! We'll see how long they last, which for me with my limited budget, is a really important factor. But I would say this is my favorite tire so far.

I put a cobra on the rear acouple months back and really like it so far, great traction, nice tread design, really wicks the water away in those heavy downpours here in the Midwest. I tested it out pretty aggressively while on my Midwest Valk Ride In in rain and alot of twisties, mud, gravel and they performed superbly.

I can't tell you about the cobras, but I can tell you that I felt that the Avon Venoms were an improvement over the stock Dunlops.

for what it's worth, I had an Elite2 on the front for about 3000 miles. In that time, it was about 3/4 shot, so I replaced it because I was replacing the rear anyways. I put Avon Venoms on at that time and...man, what a difference!!! If you go with Dunlops, go for the E3's. I thought they were a good tire with about the same wear/treadlife as the Avons. But I did like the feel of the Venoms a little better.
By the way, I have over 2000 miles on the rear Avon Cobra and so far, so good! It appears to be wearing very well...as in not much! I only have a few hundred on the front though...but also very good as far as handling goes.

they actually don't make elite 2's any more. they were a much better choice than the oem tires when they did produce them, they worked real good on my wings and just as well on my valk. then along came the 3's and what an improvement. like i said maybe a set of cobras next time once folks have had them long enough to know how they last. until then they are too pricey to take the chance on.

At one time, the E3's were much cheaper than the Avons. But when I bought the Cobras from HDL, I think they were only about $25 more than the E3's for the set. I figured it was worth that to try them. Otherwise, yeah, I would have went for the E3's again.
