I am waiting for new grips to arrive for my 2001 Standard. How do I remove the original ones? Do I have to cut them or is there a trick?

Also... I am looking for the chrome filler panels that go around the petcock and the ignition switch. I saw them on Ebay at one point but they were around $150.00.
I did some searching online and a few Valk owners have mentioned that they picked theirs up for around $40.00. That seems more inline to me.

I don't know about any tricks, but when I installed my Kury Iso grips I didn't want to cut my stock grips off.  I used an air compressor and a needle used to inflate basketballs.  Just stick the needle under the grips and work it around while hitting the compressed air and the grips will "blow" free.  You can insert the needle from each end as the grips loosen, then keep the air on while pulling gently and the grip will ride on the air cushion off the bar.  Worked like a charm for me, didn't damage the stock grips at all.
After that, clean the residual glue off, then install new grips.

That is a great idea. I have a compressor and a needle valve.

I know this is obvious but don't forget to unscrew and remove the grip ends before you shoot the air.

Roger that  shocked  I had assumed that step was obvious, but better to state the obvious then to make an assumption.  The grip ends need to be removed (unscrewed) to allow access for shooting the air between the grips and the bar.

Thanks for the replies. Unscrewing the grip ends wasn't as obvious as you think. The last few bikes I did grips on didn't have ends that unscrewed so I didn't think of doing it.
