Rode from Albuquerque to Castle Rock Saturday missing the snow.  Then left Colorado state line on Monday and arrived in Buffalo Tuesday - warm with clear sunny skies all the way.

. . . two days Colorado to New York, on St. Patrick's Day, and with the wife on the back.

I never thought ground transportation could be so accomodating.

Its early - we were lucky to have the weather.

We are planning to ride to Labrador in August if we can get there.  Maybe we can connect in Quebec.

I spent much of my youth in the bush West of Maniwaki.

Sounds like one of those trips that one talks about for a lifetime! Pretty "fast and furious" but full of views and events that probably are only now catching up with you. I think you've found the right forum here. Most of us have had that same mind blowing life changing motorcycle experience from riding the valk. That was a really long ride. Welcome to the forum.

Scared? The only thing I'm scared of is that I won't be here on the 24th. My wife and I will be flying home on the 24th and will miss Rodeo by a matter of hours. The 25th is Memorial day and I'll be home then, but I think Dennis said he can't stick around that long. I feel bad about it as I've looked forward to it for quite some time. I think it'd be great to meet you too! I'd love to come that way as well sometime and ride the road to Jackson hole and on to Yellowstone. That'd be awesome. I work for a company that requires I submit my vacation a year in advance, so had it all planned out prior to owning the Valk, but will try to do better next year. I was able to schedule a week to go down to Grand Junction this year and am looking forward to that. I know, we should try to meet in Sun Valley some saturday for a lunch. If I remember right, that's about 3 hours for both of us. I'll see if I can drag Duckwheat along.

Yes, this forum is the best place to share experences, and you guys know what I mean when I say that I/S is "one moving piece of iron".

Don't get me wrong though - it was NM to CO on day #1.  Day #2 was CO to St. Louis, and day #3 was St. Louis to Buffalo . . . and at the time it didn't feel like it was a stretch.  I swear that rolling down the highway at 85 mph the I/S feels like I'm sitting on a diesel locomotive.

The big deal was being successful threading the needle on the weather:  spring comes late in WNY, and to happen to hit a few hours of warm sunny air on St. Patrick's Day was a miracle.  Of course it was also through 2 time zones so I was in recovery mode the whole day after.

What I didn't tell you about (yet) was what I was up to when I was in CO.  I'm waiting for the wife to download a couple of images so I can tell you about it.

You go from Grand Jct to Twin in one day? Let's see, that means I'd need a 4 day weekend.... I wonder....

I went from Denver to Lawrence KS (got there for dinner)
then from Lawrence to Columbus Ohio (wife's cousin had dinner waiting) day 2
and then on to my house 30 miles north of NYC the last day (yep wife had dinner waiting)

I just averaged around 75 rarely exceeding 4000 rpm except for going uphills which for some reason I just love going faster and passing those double trucks especially in Colorado.

But I did get to Eureka Springs Arkansas in 2 days  but again did not miss a meal : )

The wind effect from being behind a truck was much worse at higher elevations than at sea level  Wonder why that was

My best recollection is I was getting in the low 32-34 mpg range that trip, I had the big red bag on the trunk and rode solo. My hat is off to you riding across the cross winds of kansas at that speed.  I found that if the wind caught the windshield right it was tough to stay in one lane at that high a speed

Yep love the Interstate
