2000 Valk Standard

« on: July 22, 2009, 07:21:29 PM »

.........and am very happy so far, have only put 30 - 35 miles on it, (2000 Standard)but the bike handles and rides so much better both on the highway and rocky parking lots, my uneven lawn, slow speed situations in general that I've experienced so far. I went with the General Altimax 205/55/16. It seemed to raise the RPM's maybe 100 - 150 at 65. I didn't do the nut cage mod, seemed to be a good half inch clearance on both sides. I started out with 36 psi, will start dropping it and see if it might make a difference. I noticed a kind of screech when I got on my uneven lawn when turning, I suspect this might be the tire rubbing on the nut cage, although I'm not 100% sure, will do more experimenting tomorrow, maybe will drop the air pressure some and raise the suspension a notch. I want to make sure it's not rubbing as I'm heading out to Utah for the "Gathering of the Guard" Sat and will be pulling a pop up camper trailer behind. It will be my first long trip with the bike and am really looking forward to it. Yep, after 30 miles on a car tire, I'm in love with my Valk even more.

I bet when you hook that trailer up you will wish you did the cage it will also cut into the tire when two-up . You might be one of the few lucky ones that get's away without doing it but pulling a trailer or two-up  I doubt it.

I pulled the trailer 2400 miles, no problem. Rode the bike another 5,000 plus miles since, no problem,.
