Somewhere over the rainbow....

You must be crazy to run a car tire on your motorcycle! It has been (very lightly) suggested that in order to be crazy enough to run a car tire on your motorcycle, you must also have been crazy enough to have jumped out of an airplane! Makes sense to me! What I want to know, is there any validity to this concept?  cool

Nogrey do you run a car tire on your Valkyrie ?
I did'nt vote cause you did'nt have ....Outstanding grip in the twisties....Superior wet road traction and braking ... And the ever popular it just fits the fat girl's a$$.

I ran the goodyear triple tread's on both valkyries, now I have a kuhmo run flat on my wing!
I'm thinking some would think I'm three times as crazy!

but there too I am considering going double darkside on the wing ( rear tire on the front )

hmmmm.............ok I'm just nuts!

Yes, I run a General altimax hp. It's my first CT and I have to say I like it very much. It leaves me wanting for nothing performance-wise. Superior to the old paper-thin donut I had on when I was riding with my wife and the thing blew out. That one was an Avon with all of 3K miles on it. Don't get me wrong, too many satisfied Avon riders out there to think that this was anything more than a tragic mishap. But after we got her off the tire machine and I found the little hole in it that could have been made by a fresh turd I decided to get some real meat under my rear. I don't imagine I'll ever go back, at least not on the fat girl.

means I have a open mind about the subject and am not opposed to putting a car tire on.

I ran the Toyo Proxes several thousand miles.  Was great in the twisties & wet pavement, improved rear braking power and was wonderfully smooth.  BUT, slow speeds & rutted roads were not a nice combination & I refuse to ride a machine that thinks it can occasionally have a mind of it's own.  Put the Avon Cobra 200 on the rear and couldn't be happier, expense be damned, it's just right all the time, not just most of the time.

Well, I wouldn't say that I skydive, since I don't do it all the time.  But I did go skydiving once while in college about 16 years ago and loved it.  Kinda turned bungee jumping into a "big deal...so what" kind of activity when I did that a few months later.  And while I haven't run one yet, I just ordered my first Darkside tire yesterday.  So...we'll see what happens. Was that your post I read that you ordered the general ultimax HP? That's the tire I chose and it's amazing. I love it.

Yes...that's the tire I ordered.  I was actually pretty mad yesterday.  I thought Sears carried that tire since it is listed on their website.  But it has to be ordered...5 to 7 "business" days...and I'd have to pick it up at the store, pay tax, etc.  So I tried to order it from them on line (you have to actually call them), but I got some idiot on the phone that apparently didn't know how to use a computer and kept saying it was locking him out, and this was after I had given him the part number and he brought up the wrong tire and I had to argue with him about what tire I wanted.  Finally he told me I'd have to call back later...I just told him I'd call someone else who could help me.  So I ordered the same tire from Tirerack.com.  I had to pay shipping, but the cost was essentially the same as from Sears and it will be here (at my house) Wednesday.  So I hope to have it installed by the weekend.

Wow, that's my exact experience every time I deal with sears. They'll have an ad in the paper for a sale item. I'll go in the opening day of the sale and they won't have any. Has to be ordered. Pay shipping etc. At least, that's how it was the last several times I have dealt with them. I stopped going to sears in 1997 for that reason. I had to drive an hour to get there so it was just too much of a hassle. I've dealt with tire rack before and have zero complaints with them. They are great to deal with.

Well, in fairness to Sears, I wasn't shopping in their ad.  It was online at Sears.com.  They listed the tire there, so I assumed they carried the same tires in the store that they carried online...why not, right??  Well, they can get the tire in the store if you order it...no shipping cost when sent to the store, but you have to pay sales tax...and wait a week or more to get it.  I was more pissed off about the length of time to get the tire and with the idiot they had answering the phones to take the orders. huh

That's why I mentioned the trip and how long it takes me to get to sears. Living in a Rural area it just seemed to make more sense to shop on line than run to their store for things. I've called them too with the same kind of luck. For me, living rural like I do, the internet has made life a lot easier to acquire things I need.
