With the amount of room there is under the tank, you also have the hangers installed, it will be hard to see/find.

Hate to say it the best way to find it may be to take the tank off. You might want to look at the manual to confirm.

fyi, I just got my K&N air filter installed with my new tires - dealer did not charge me any labor since he threw it in with the 1 hour labor (more like 45 minutes or so tops) of replacing the clutch and brake fluid.  My K&N air filter instructions were dated 2000 and marked for a 1997 Valkyrie probably because I bought it at my local Honda shop in the clearance bin for only 65 bucks still new in plastic wrap.  Anyways, I left the top and bottom gaskets in place seeing as how my old 2000 instructions did not mention taking them both out of the air box top and bottom.  I got confirmation today from K&N that in 2005/2006 sometime the directions have been changed online and the K&N air filter redesigned to have more of a lip on top and bottom slightly so as of 2005 and beyond, the gaskets need to be removed as per the current instructions.  I think the bike now breathes better but gas mileage is about the same I think.  The original honda oem air filter after 9 years and 17,000 miles was pretty buggy and dirty, but could have lasted another 5,000 miles or so since the paper filters inside were not too bad and below the original air filter was totally dirt/grease free. The same couldn't be said for the 1/8" of dust/dirt sitting on top of the air box lid and frame of the bike - probably the tank has never been taken off in 9 years from previous owner. Good to go now for another 5-6 years of riding before checking and re-oiling it again probably about the same time I will need new tires yet again.

Thanks Nitrojunkie for offering to help me install the K&N air filter if you get down to the Monroe WI area to see your family members.  You will probably be driving right by my house in Monticello on Hwy. 69 so if you get down this way, look me up and say hi on your new ride.

No problem, I'll let you know when I'm down that way!
