1999 Valyrie Reverse Trike

« on: July 24, 2010, 08:33:26 PM »

Every year we do a major bike trip, we've been doing this for almost 30 years with the same couple so every year we try for a new location. Normally we take 10 days and put on 4-5k. This year we had a wedding and a host of things so we cut it down to 7 days and decided to tour - Wisconsin.
Crossed the river at Lacrosse and took Hwy 33 across southern WI then worked our way north to Door county and up to Bayfield. We really enjoyed the time in WI and it's a truly beautiful state. Every road no matter how small is hard paved and we just had a great time on all the remote back roads. Did some Geocaching which took us into some great hiking areas.

I have to give the State a giant thumbs up as one of the most scenic in the country. Only 1400 miles this year but 100% fun.

Glad you enjoyed your time here! You're right, there are many miles of fantastic, scenic roads and, best of all, they're nearly all paved. If you get a chance to hit the southwestern part of the state, definitely do it. The roads there wind their way through rolling hills unlike the rest of WI.

The roads right now Nitro whine their way covered with water.  Grant county last night got hit hard with over 4" of rain and many roads/homes are flooded in SW WI.  I feel fortunate we got only about 2.25-2.5" of rain.  Cannot imagine 4" in a few hours or what Milwaukee got which was over 8" that made national news developing a sink hole in the road swallowing an SUV.

TrickyD,  how is the WI river in your backyard treating you?  I hope it is not up to your patio area outback.  Had a flooded basement once back in the mid 90's and don't ever want to go thru that again - what a mess!
