I'm trying to swap on a set of IS saddlebag hinges to my Champion bags. I need to as I'm adding and IS trunk. I bought all the IS hinge components listed on the HDL site. I'm missing an L shaped bracket that the Hook bolts to on the lid. The HDL site doesn't show this part. I'm wondering if that part only comes with the IS lid. I including a picture of the IS hook part of the hinge attached to a Champion bag lid. Note the L bracket screw to the bottom of the lid. I was wondering if anyone can confirm that there IS lid  has such a bracket? The bottom side of the IS lid is different looking then the Champion. I thought the hook just bolts to the IS lid. Not sure where that L bracket comes from. Guy that sent the pictures said he swapped hinges with the guy he got his trunk from and that bracket came with the IS hinge.

Mine looks different than that, I just checked. There is a plastic piece on the inside of the bracket, or the bracket fits up into it. It's hard to see since I still have my cables attached so I can't flip the lids over. Maybe someone that has removed theirs can get a picture for you.

Here is a picture I found of an IS lid with the IS hook attached. Hard to tell from the picture whats up in where the hook is fastened to the lid.

Yep, that second one is the OEM setup. The hinge looks about the same in terms of function as the one you have. I'm not sure what it is that you're missing, however. If you mean the piece that the cable attaches to so that you can hang the bags, you don't really need it. MP and other don't use the cables. If that's not what you referring to, please clarify.

Just about the hinge. No plan on using the cables. In the first pix that L plate doesn't appear to be in the IS setup. I need it to make the IS hinge work on the Champion bags. But it isn't on the HDL parts page for the IS saddlebags. Could be part of the replacement lid. Need a closeup of IS lid see to see if that L plate is part of IS lid. or someone made it. Guy I talked with said that part came of an IS bag set as part of the hinge.

I believe this is the part?   #29      HOOK, SADDLEBAG LID
81317-MBY-000   002   $7.20   $5.54

should be the hook part

You also need this:   #16      NUT, PLATE
81228-MBY-000   002   $5.71   $4.40

This goes over the hook plate, holding it to the lid.

I have #29 And #16. if you look at my first picture. #29 is attached to an L plate that bolts to underside of lid. #29 does not include that L plate. It's not shown in the parts diagram. I think I might have to make that part to get the IS hinge to work with the Champion bags. The IS lid appears to be a bit different where lid attaches.

Champion different than IS may be.  I put the IS hinges on my std.  I did not have any trouble after ordering those parts, plus the ones for the bags.  Good luck.

I got the bags back on the bike this weekend and messed with the hinges a bit. I made up the missing bracket that is shown early on in this post. I couldn't get the hook far enough forward as yet. Going to keep after it. I really like the Champion bags and the liner they have in them but since I added the trunk I wish I could find a set of OEM bags or swap to clear up this hinge issue.

I finished the STD to IS conversion yesterday and got the bike back on the road after two months of paint and assembly. Runs great and felt good going for the first ride sitting on all that work. I have a few things to finish up with it but so far so good. With the new speedo/tach LCD board its sits in the garage with 5 miles showing.  Smiley Will snap some pictures this week.

I ended up buying a set of IS bags. I still need to find the mounts. Guess I will be selling the Champion bags one I get the IS ones installed. Besides the hinges I was also having issues with chrome bag guard rubbing the sides of the bag so I decided to find OEM bags.
