We just found and bought a 2001 Interstate to replace the wing, so far we love the bike.
Since we really dont use the radio and it sounds pretty poor when we do is it possible to cleanly remove the ugly switch panel on the left bar and the assocoated radio etc.  One concern is the control to set the clock on the right side of the panel, all the other switches can go!
Thanks
Rick

Have you considered getting a different pair of speakers and maybe an amp to make for better sound on the bike?

You never use the intercom either?

Or just go with headsets for listening to the music, that's what I did. Much better at highway speeds!

I use the headsets. As nitro stated, sound much better.  Plus, can communicate.

Well I am hoping to figure out how to remove the audio system completely.
That switch is godawful to look at and all the intercom/radio functionality is replaced by the iphone in the tank bag.
Is the radio in the fairing?  Would be great to lose the weight in the fairing.
It seems the only buttons needed from the cluster are the clock setting button...... a small microswitch or two installed under the front of the fairing would be clean.
Has anyone done this?
I guess I should start by gettng my hands on a shop manual.
Thanks in Advance

Rick, the radio is black box under the seat with the wires coming out of it.  Good luck on figuring out the controls for the clock.

If you pull the radio out you will lose the digital display, no clock, spedo, odometer all will be lost, I tried the same thing.

I correct myself, just the center digital display will be off.
