True but if no airleaks exist the same symptoms will be the result of poor carb sync. Both conditions manifest themselves in the same manor.
To put it another way - whether through sealing leaks or syncing carbs uniform manifold vacuum is critical for the machine to run correctly.

Hi,

Now that the carbs are cleaned and all the hoses crack free I have a question.

How much does the RPM's  fluctuate at idle?

you shouldn't have surging...the stock tach isn't very sensitive and usually is not much help during carb sync.

Just checking some others.

Be sure the idle is set at 900 rpm. If they're set too low they'll do that.

Hi,

Mine might be 50 - 100 rpm's low.
When I go too much higher the rpm's seam to float when driving.
What I mean is that when you drive, pull in the clutch to shift gears and the Rs do not drop. They stay up for a couple of seconds.
When the idle is set a little lower they drop when you pull the clutch in. So I set it a hair low.
