it will fit.
seats changed in 2000, they are better.
you can also have yours reworked for maybe a hundred to one-fifty
or go go with an aftermarket

Agree-it WILL fit, however, I bought a new 2000 seat and was nearly crying from pain in an hour. I sold it that same day and went back to the old one. Each rear is different.

thank you... thats what i was thinking also   it just looks to be shaped better then the 98   looks to me like more of a bucket to sit into and more of a higher front of seat, my 98 seat also makes me slide forward every stop Im tryin to prevent this from happening also ....

I am 5'9', 170, not large at all, and your description is correct.  You sit in it more than on it.  Also gets you lower on the bike. It will work fine with your present passenger seat.   enjoy. Hoser

All STD & Tourer seats are the same mounting for all years, The I/S seats have the same mountings but are a little shorter to accommodate the larger fuel tank. I have put my Ultimate seat from my I/S on the STD many times for long solo rides, it just has a little gap between the seat nose and the tank.

97 Tourer - Midwest Region

« Reply #14 on: January 17, 2011, 07:00:20 PM »

The 97 Tourer I just bought has an upgraded seat (2000 Valkyrie) by the previous owner, for just that reason (the old seat sucked). I don't have an opinion on the seat yet, as the riding season in MN is a few months away. I do know the Ultimate seats are the best, but kinda pricey.

My 2 cents. I wish I could give you an opinion, but damn Spring is taking it's time getting here. AZ is sounding pretty good to me  Grin
