The Valkyrie is tail heavy, If you use a bike lift under the engine, the rear wheel will want to stay on the ground, That's OK if you just want to lift the front wheel, To lift the entire bike, you need to position the jack further rearward. The adapters allow you to do that safely, I have lifted mine by ratchet strapping the bike (via the crash bars) to the lift. It is vary unstable like that. I made my own H bracket that attaches to the kick stand cross member and stays on the bike, There are others that you must remove before riding, someone had plans for building one out of wood (check the archives). But to answer your question, I would say it is necessary to lift and work safely.

The "safely" part is key in Challenger's reply. My neighbor lifts his Standard without an adapter and I cringe to think about it.

You can make your own out of square stock or wood. There are diagrams someplace online... I'll see if I can track them down.

Another local Valk owner made mine for $12 worth of steel.

Cost.  Plus it gets the wheels off the ground, which is what you need it for 95% of the time.  I believe I have an extra adapter, if interested.  Will let go cheap.  PM me if interested.  I had to take it off my IS to put the sidecar on.

The adapter will work for any year/type Valk.

The table lift doesn't allow you to remove the wheels, so it would be pretty worthless for many things.

I leave my Valk up on the lift all winter, which ends up being close to 4 months. The jack should have a lock-out that allows it to keep the bike lifted without using the hydraulic cylinder.

Send me a PM.  If the horns are already mounted, they will need to be remounted.  I have the Quad horns from BigBF on mine, and work with the adapter.

The table lift is the only thing I'm looking forward to buying. My Valk is almost exactly as I want it, short of painting the bags.

If you buy a decent lift, with the drop-out in the rear, it's easy to drop the rear wheel. And, put a little weight on the front, or jack it a bit, and the front comes off, also.

I mean, how many motorcycle shops have you seen just using a jack, instead of a table lift? I don't know of ANY, and I've been in a lot of scooter garages...

If you lift without an adapter, you lift with the exhaust-not good.
I truly believe even a Cowboys fan can make the wood one as shown in the link. Hey, I did it.
