you may want to check out the Battery charger Jr
Its real  cheap and  the bonus is if you turn off the bike and leave the lights on it will charge you up right quick.

Its also good for keeping the battery up to power during the extended periods of snow and ice (no riding):banghead:
or if you forget to choke properly and run down the battery:p

"I never use my choke over about 45 degrees. Just a small bit of throttle, then hit the switch"

Same here, from day one I've found if I try and use the choke the bike loads up and acts like it going to die. On really cold mornings I'll add just a smidge of choke to bring the idle up, but before both feet are on the pegs the choke is off.

"you may want to check out the Battery charger Jr "

I have a Battery Tender that I use in the off season, once you have a full charge it shuts down and monitors the battery, then as soon as the battery drops below a certain voltage it kicks in.

At the bottom left of VOAi's home page is Hals Hondadirectline site
click on it and on the left of the first page you see "brands we carry" just click on battery tender and read the info.
they are cheap and deliver pretty quick from my experience with them.
My local cycle shop sold me mine at about the same price, call yours to check the prices

I have been looking at new bikes for a couple weeks I wanted a bike for highway use I will keep my 1200 sportster just because .my thunderheader exhaust sounds so cool.  Sunday I jumped on my sportster just to get away for few hours hit the starter and my $148.00 one year old battery was dead !  got to thinking about the  $2000.00 I spent keeping it running over the last two years thats money I could have spent on women, beer, or guns.  This morning I made a trip to my Honda dealer and bought a new 2003 Valkyrie for $10,800 I think I got a lot of bike for the money. I am happy in Wichita Ks.  Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley

congrats, I think that you will love the bike. I have had one and am on my second, first one hit the ground hard, at Colby Ks. I was on my way back home from my brothers house, he lives in Halstead, Ks. very near you. I grew up in that area.
The Valk, is no V-Twin, but that is not a disadvantage as far as I am concerned. I have never owned a V-Twin, and don't think that I have missed anything. I have owned some twins, just not V's. I had 4 Goldwings before the Valks, so I like the Honda horizontal engine design just fine.
If you ever find your self in Seattle area give me a call.
Some day I would like to see the Big Dog factory.

Lewmed, I did kinda what you did.  I traded my HD Sportster 1200 custom for a Valk and kept the 883 Hugger.  My Custom was expensive to own and more of a hassle than I thought it should be.  The 883 has never been any trouble.

I do like the lope of the Harley, but it's not worth the hassle of owning the bloody thing.

I just recently traded my VTX 1300 S in on a new 2003 Valkyrie.  The difference in ride is like night and day.  I feel I could not have made a better step.  You won't regret buying the Valkyrie

Yes, I have one pug.  Her name is Ester.  Makes an easy email address  to remember.

When I said the VTX was smaller, I meant physically-I have short legs (28") and long (38") arms. I am nearly 3' wide at the shoulders, and a local seat recoverer said the seat that fits my butt could be used for a Helipad. As far as handling-the VTX IS a pig compared to the Valk.
I understand about the trade in part. My philosophy about what I pay for a bike is, "If I'm happy with the deal-I buy it and never worry again what someone else paid".
Most all of the aftermarket windshield makers have one for the Valk. I like my barn door one, but a fly screen would sure look good. I think it would look best with a sleeping bag above the headlight, bungeed in place and no shield....but I am a little odd!
