Turn signal issue

On my 98 tour model I have a minor turn signal issue.  Seems like some times the right or left side signallisght  just goes dark and will not blink,  but sometimes after a time it will start to blink.   What is the problem?  the activator seems a little tough or sticky.

You need to take the switch housing apart, disassemble the switch, and clean and grease everything. My Interstate was doing the same thing in cold weather last year and, after cleaning everything up (it was digustingly dirty), it works like new again. It's an easy, straightforward job, just make sure you don't loose any of the little pieces.

I would use a spray can with tube to squirt electrical contact cleaner and lubricant into the slots on both  side of the switch, and turn it back and forth vigorously, push the turn cancellation button the same.  Might just fix it. If not, do what Nitro said.  Hoser

There is a detent ball behind (towards the front of the bike) the metal part the button is attached to. Clean that well. Be very careful until you fix it. When that button gets hard to operate, it is fixin' to break. Clean and Lube it and all is well. You can't just buy the cheap metal part, you have to order the whole ~$60 unit.

Did what Nitro and Valker said. But did not change a thing. When cold it would take holding the turner right to make it work. Then after a bit it would work as it was suppose to. Just a press and it would blink. Left had no problem. Now that its warmed up a bit it works fine, so don't worry about it too much as it will solve itself. ( At least mine did)

I was experiencing the same problem a little over a year ago. The turn signal lever was hard to push back and forth, in cold weather the blinker, especially the left one, would take several miles of riding to work, and hard to cancel the blinker.   I tired to cleaning/lubing the unit.  Didn't do a good enough job as finally the lever broke, new one fix all the issues.  I have ridden in temps below 30 with the signal wroking from the start.   Expensive fix, $75 by time the unit was at my door.
